Your favorite MIDI Controller

Inspired by the fact that my setup is nearly identical to the one Christian Löffler uses (one of my fav artists), which wasn’t on purpose. He uses 2 FaderFox controllers to play his live set. I googled those and they are pretty expensive for Midi controllers, but I’m sure there’s a good reason.

Anyways; what MIDI controller do you or would you use for this purpose? Basic purpose is too fade in scenes and control parameters of sends / FX / devices.

Digitakt or Octatrack.

Also when using Ableton for melodic elements?

I’m only using Ableton to record Audio.

Faderfox devices in general, but specifically EC4 and UC4

Sturdy built, multiple parameters on different groups and sets in a small form factor. Pure awesomeness

Launchpad Pro Mk3, I use Components to make custom “pages” to control my DN

I’m still looking forward to the BCR 32, It’ll cover a lot of things like this, providing a lot of endless encoder.

An option for you could be a beatstep or two. They are cheap, have a lot of knobs, provide relative midi messages etc. Main downside is that they are clicky encoders which I’m not a huge fan of for most things.

One other option is Touch OSC (or Lemur) if you are ok with a touchscreen. Gives you endless layout options.

Probably the Korg nanokontrol v1 - doesn’t even have din midi so need a usb host box but i really liek the size and the looseness of the faders.

Electra One - expensive, but extremely versatile and the screen is very helpful for changing setups. Also: 2 midi outs = 32 channels.

Launchpad Pro (still using Mk2) — note input (drum/keys pad), launching clips
Beatstep (regular, not Pro) in controller mode — tweaking

For fader/ knob box style my go to for nearly 20 years has been the evolution uc33. It feels flimsy but I bought it used all those years ago and it’s still working just fine. Cheap with tons of knobs, easy to assign, savable scenes, etc. lots of bang for your buck. It has a USB port but I’ve never used it, I’m all din or nothing.

Hi,
How do you handle with the absence of midi cc in ?

Electra One for me too. I really like the Launchpad pro mk3 but I eagerly await the management of the incoming midi cc and there it will be perfect.

push 2 + akai midimix + keystep

I’m using the Keystep 37 for note input, and got a launchpad X now for scenes and simpler. I do miss the ability of mixing in scenes live since there’s no knobs atm

Whatcha mean no cc in?

When you tweak a midi parameter (mapped on LPP mk3) from the device you want to control, the LPP won’t receive CC. Communication is not bidirectional.

Did you watch my vid? They respond if you set them up in session mode instead of with components.

I know this but session mode only work with Live isn’t it ?
