What’s the best 1 standalone box for techno?
(Answering “Octatrack” is cheating )
But answering anything else is incorrect.

since the question was synth and not sampler… and I am going to assume we are not recording into a DAW so it’s got to be multi channeled/voiced… So my list
Rytm(though really works with samples layers… This basically is why the octo is out)
Syntakt
LXR-02(though I feel like the techno is going to start to sound the same)
Roland Groove boxes - TR8S(though again really only work with samples)
A4
Digitone
309 Raveolution
pretty much any good drum machine that allows sound design(and again sample layer really helps)
I am sure I am forgetting a tone of stuff too… like the electribe ER-1 for example
I nominate an op-z stuffed with @darenager mc202 samples. Wrote this on the bus, and walking to/from work the other week.
Surprised I haven’t seen the MC707 mentioned, so I’ll throw it out there.
Thinking about that recently, I am pretty sure my favourites would be, along with the nordMicromodular, AR, A4, and Cycles
One box to do it. Me suggests TR-8S.
Perkons! Here’s a hot slice of techno served up Perky:
For me either;
-Korg er1
-M:c
-Rytm
-Blast Beats could probably do it too but I’m not there with the workflow yet for use in that context.
Syntakt. Also, the Syntakt.

(Not mine)
MFB Tanzbär 2.
Not a full fledged groovebox, but you get drums, bass synth, a few samples. Funky little machine!
Syntakt. Here’s a recent techno jam on the ST:
