This was a face-palm moment for me, the first time I saw this box in action, and it remains the sole reason why I don’t own one. It’s a less than trivial design oversight, which could have been easily avoided.

Cheers!

If you’ve already shelled out on cables, just buy some extenders. They’re cheap and work well.
You probably won’t need them for all your cables either. I found that by using a few adjacent to some of my more bulky jacks I can free up enough space.

Nice, thats a great idea!

I mean there are cables which fit ok, but I agree that it’s a quite needless design flaw that some don’t. But for me that doesn’t spoil it, because it’s a very nicely built machine otherwise. I’ll just get some other cables and then everything is fine.

I always come back to this too when considering one

It’s not an issue at all if you have the right cables/splitters/adapters :man_shrugging:

It’s a factor for me too - the lack of transport was more of a concern, but now that’s been addressed I find that the form factor still makes me pause. It just feels like it would benefit so much from more room to breathe. The MIDI being at the front has always bugged me too, but of course I can see the advantages of it being so compact and portable in some scenarios. Ideally I’d like to dither and weep long enough for a V2 to appear with a larger chassis, for people who want the features but aren’t too concerned about the footprint (or for a few more competitors to appear, because this I think this could be a really interesting space in the market).

I have a pretty strong feeling there will be an alternative soon enough

True, but then I think it’s $499 plus $50 worth of cabling in order to use it to full capacity.

I think it was more like 20 for the splitters. I actually paid like 200 just in import taxes  :joy:

You would need cables regardless of the input/output jack configuration.
I certainly didn’t have enough 3.5mm trs to 2 x 6.25mm ts when I got the bluebox and had to buy a few more.
You just need to buy the right ones.
If you already have them, a set of extenders to fill 50% of the slots and allow enough space for the remainder to be more chunky jacks will cost approx £10 - £15.

Don’t get me wrong though. I do think it’s a design flaw (and this weird thing that kit makers have about conserved form factor between devices. Would anyone really care if it was just a little wider than the blackbox, but had sensibly spaced jacks?). But it’s not insurmountable. I also value the compactness of the unit.

I wouldn’t have to get new if they were left/right 1/4” or 3.5mm.

It looks like an amazing bit of kit and I think it’s very likely I’ll end up with one. Just saying that the additional expense, and the need for added adapters, gives me pause.

I bought the Hosa 1/8” insert y-cable 4 pack for $12.99 earlier this year from Sweetwater that fit perfectly on Bluebox.

I picked up 2 packs so 8 splitters for $26 not bad.

Since we’re talking cables, I picked up some of these to use the Bluebox as a Eurorack mixer. They fit nicely and have an elliptical shape.

I guess this has to do with advantages for the manufacturer mainly. Using the same housing for multiple devices keeps cost down significantly.

No issues with the jacks, the spacing was actually larger than what I anticipated.

I played a bit with the new update and while the reverb presets are great, I was disappointed that I could not access the full parameters anymore and save my own presets. At least keeping the old version under a “custom” preset entry would have been nice.

Oh my, that photo is having some kind of effect on me.

So, I only bought 6 standard headphone extension cables and then alternated thick cables and extensions. Works like a charm.

Questions to the bluebox owners who use it in a live situation: How do you do transitions with the bluebox?

At the moment I’m routing the second out to my OT where I record one pattern cycle into a recording buffer and then solo the OT while playing the recorded audio. Kinda works, but I have some issues with levels because I also play samples from the OT which obviously are way quieter than the mix. So, either the recorded mix in the OT is way too quiet or my samples are way too loud in the mix. Maybe it is possible to do the transition entirely in the bluebox with the recording feature?

I bit the bullet and it’s on its way. Had a bit of trouble justifying the cost as there is no 2nd hand market for it yet. But I think it will be a great addition to my workflow.

Is it possible to record several layers from the same input?

For example if I had an Octatrack going into input 1, could i then first record 1 bar of OT’s track 1, then track 2, track 3, etc. until I had separate stems for each of OT’s tracks, and then play them back all together
