I understand that if I need more than 4 measures in a pattern, I can do half-speed etc. However, this changes to lower “resolution” of steps per measure. Is there any workaround for this?
Not possible. The “workarounds” are to use polymetry or conditional trigs to extend the amount of time before a pattern repeats itself or to chain patterns in song mode.

1:2 for the first round of 4 measures,
2:2 for the second round with micro timing.
Oh wait, that’ll still only give you an 8th note resolution.
