i want to share a sound preview of my 909 clone. it was DIY project, built it myself. enjoy!
This is seriously cool all around, but I am mostly enjoying the very clack-y buttons (which apparently do NOT clack on the RD-9 clone).
yeah that’s indeed cool. a little vintage feeling!
nice build! I’ve got one as well, in the OG colors. love it!
i like the black more, bc it fits better to my black RE-303. but if i could order a second kit, i would chose one with OG color then
Looks and sounds great!
I wasn’t aware of these kits before they went out of stock. Hopefully they do another run. I’d prefer one of these over the RD-909.
Clacky is the way to go. The B one has silicon buttons and I’d like to stay away from those as well.
Edit: Sent an email because I was curious. Preorders start tomorrow again
Thanks for the demo too
How does this compare to the Nava 9 ?
Why didn’t you say so!? Do they accept tips? I think it’s a little under priced so I want to make it fair for them.
Too bad, I was going to offer double the price since it’s made from solid gold
Listen to the demo he posted above. It sounds like the real thing to me. The Nava not so much.
yeah I’d say the Steda and Din Sync 909’s are the closest clones I’ve ever heard. and both nail the form factor. think the firmware is a one to one copy of the original in both clones. Nava that isn’t the case.
Looks like I’m going to have to dip into the closet gear some more so I can pre-order a kit.
Damn, that pink one looks pretty hot! Anybody know what these kits go for?
Thanks. I’ve never heard a real 909 in the flesh but a friend has a nava - I always believed that was pretty much identical to a real one (with no real knowledge if that was true) so this is interesting!
(Reason for asking is I was thinking of building one of the clones and this looks cool - was checking out their website last night! If only they did an smt version )
there will be new Kits released in the near future. on muff wiggler is also a built thread. if you are already registred there, just ask if you have any questions.
regarding the NAVA. it sounds great, good clone, but not 100% the same circuits as the real 909, the SR-909 inturn is a exact copy
Haha, you know how I feel about that too
Nava is great for what it is but this one is supposed to be a replica. All of the parts can be used to repair an original. I believe it even runs the original operating system as well.
The RE-909 is another replica that came out recently too. Apparently they were both working on them
The RE-909 seems maybe a bit more community diy oriented rather than just purchasing a kit. So it might be more up your alley.
Im tired of DIY lately so a kit sounds nice to me.
After shipping you’re looking at ~ $1100 U.S.
That gets you everything except a standard power cable and CR2032 battery for pattern memory I believe.
You can pre-order now FYI

Edit: I guess the pink one and some other colors is an additional $46
yeah I personally love that the SR-909 is a straight up kit. you don’t have to go chasing down all the parts yourself.
it looks like they’re pretty strictly DIY only now, based on their website. they built mine though. so I’m not sure what changed. maybe just don’t have the time to meet all requests for it any more.
A replica like this would be particularly difficult too. Even if you found all of the parts, some of the IC’s would need to be flashed etc… it’s just such a huge undertaking time wise. Plus you need a lot of specialty tools.
For someone learning it can be beneficial. But when you’ve already learned these things it’s just a bunch of time wasted to save relatively very little money. My time is more precious than saving a few bucks these days.
A younger poorer me with tons of time and no money loved being able to afford, and build something like this by just putting in the work.
So I think it’s great, but I just want to make music now (as you know).
That said, I have a pre-order for a classic kit with Red LED’s and display.
Thanks ! Will take a look at the re-909…
(Shipping and tax from the States may be prohibitive for the Steda !)
