One or two good ones. If you want low maintenance good knife, I really like the G4 Serie from Global and their knifes in general. You can go more crazy but honestly for a first good knife, low maintenance and enjoyable matters most imho.
The knife and a nice wooden plank with the promess to invite you to dinner is a nice gift

Patch and tweak is the modular bible if he is into that and synth gems if he’s more generally in to synths. I can really recommend Patch and tweak. It’s an amazing book and it’s the same author that has written synth gems.
