A4-Digitone-Novation Nova MIDI bafflement

Hello
I’ve had the A4 for over a year and love it and just got the DN last week…

I’m trying to do the following (see diagram for physical and Midi Channels set up)

Use my A4 as the Master device… connected to the Digitone to control transport of its sequences , and to create tunes using both devices.

The DN is connected to my old Novation Nova, which in Performance Mode allows you to create a ‘Performance’ of 6 voices of 32 note polyphony (I’m only using 4 voices on the DN’s Midi 1-4 channels), each with its own midi channel, arpeggiator, fx etc etc.

It works with the DN great, ditto with the A4 using FX & CV Channel to fire Midi.

I expected the Keystep to transmit Midi to the A4, using A4 set to Auto CH 12 to record Trigs to the A4… or press CH 10 on Keystep to be able to record Trigs to the DN (via the A4).

It doesnt.

It doesn’t transmit Note Trigs to the DN or the Nova (when pressing Midi buttons 1-4 on DN) at all.

It doesn’t record Trigs to the DN sequence tracks.

I’ve experimented with Out/Thru - nothing.

Transport IS sent… so I can play & stop both sequencers together perfectly…

I’m not a newbie… I have been using MIDI since its inception and have connected lots of gear over the years - Daw /Dawless… but this is really baffling me and it has to be something basic I’ve overlooked!)

HELP!

Have a DT (no DN but similar in terms of midi setup).
Have you set up your midi channels on DN?

Are you wanting to sequence the nova from the digitone?
It can be difficult because you need to use both the A4 out to send clock/transport and pc
And also thru to pass the keystep midi also…

I have a few midi merge boxes for situations like this

Yes - however a user on FB Group sorted me - set the CV track on A4 to Midi CH 10 and I just select the CV track button when I want to play the DN, still using CH 12 on the Keystep (and one of the Midi Tracks on the DN when I want to pass thru to the Nova)… works exactly how I want it to (I do have a very small CV rig but I use that totally independently of the A4, so this works for me atm)
