I know this topic is long overdue, but someone will probably ask same question and stumble upon this in the future: the main drawback of Minilogue XD to me (and I own both the Korg and A4) is the lack of Modulations, and the fact that it’s single LFO can be assigned to only cutoff, shape and pitch (and LFO has only 3 shapes + reversed). This is a pretty basic entry-level synth, I would say, especially compared to it’s bigger brother DSI Prophet Rev2, which has a ton of assignable modulations etc. Elektron A4 has way more on board. In terms of complexity, sequencing options and voices. Way more.
I always say, get the one which you love the core sound the most. Modulation doesn’t amount to a hill of beans if you don’t love the sound of the synth.
Good advice
XD wins on FX and the digital Osc… A4 wins on everything else…
Elektron really should have included a digital osc of some form in the A4mkII !!!
No, because … I think … they were seriously about the “A” in A4, which stands for “Analog 4”
Hmm except for the Digital fx, the Digital control over every part of the analog circuit, the digital storage of presets, the digital sequencer, the digital lfos, the digital envelopes… the Analog4 is pretty purely analog…
At least they have been serious about “analog” for the primary sound creation method. IIRC the A4 was a new direction, which Elektron took, after having created pure digital gear for many years.
Like it says on the box: digital mind, analog soul…
