I would like to see Elektron add the sequencer to the Overbridge plugin. This would solve a bunch of the ‘issues’ I’m bumping into and creating work arounds for.
Any thoughts?
Reasons why this would be likely/unlikely?
Imagine dragging/dropping a midi file onto the plugin to send a midi clip to one of the analog devices.
Good idea of course but more importantly I think Elektron should seriously consider / prioritise extending functionality of the sequencers within their hardware.
Not wanting to sound pissy but Elektron promote their ‘world renowned ‘sequencers’’ and yet they can’t even run in reverse…
OB is great and I appreciate all the work that went into it but I didn’t buy Elektron machines to find myself sitting in front of a computer again.
Maybe I am in a minority here but the hardware (or ironically the software within it/ standalone functionality) matters far more to me.
In the original announcement of the OB timeline, I’m sure elektron stated that a pattern editor would be coming (v1.1?).
I can’t find this anywhere now though.
Hopefully they’ve not shelved it.
Edit:
Found it - April newsletter:
"Overbridge 1.1 to be released autumn 2015
These will be the key features of Overbridge 1.1:
[ul]
[li]Librarian[/li]
[li]Pattern/Song editing"[/li]
[/ul]
So my wishes are coming true - can’t believe I forgot about the pattern/song support!
OB 1.1 is going to open alot of doors
ATM, for me, the most useful features of OB are the ease of tracking that it gives (sample accurate sync w/ multitrack audio streaming), but with 1.1 the use cases are going to vastly expand
I would guess that this is unlikely to come in autumn this year though, given that several of the other features are still not implemented (eg. that same letter said we would have total recall of machine state, and AU plugin for v1.0)
Very much looking forward to the pattern editor though!
i’m not sure i see the value of ‘chaining’ patterns. assuming that is simple enough to do w/ a program change message - though maybe not given the Overbridge implementation not being midi.
