Adjust velocity in MIDI trigs to add modulation?

Hi ! I’m sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find the answer despite my searches !

I know the MIDI sequencing of the Model: series is kinda limited : just sending notes (pitch, length, velocity). CCs cannot be sequenced (but knobs do work in realtime).

Is it still possible to change velocity on a per step basis, without retriggering the note ? I have a Volca FM and the velocity has a big impact on the sound – it would be cool if at least this kinda of modulation could be sequenced…

Cheers !

Section 8.8 of the manual is your friend

8.8 TRIG NOTE MENU

IN GRID RECORDING mode, Press and hold one or more [TRIG] keys to access the TRIG NOTE menu. Use LEVEL/DATA to change the settings. Press LEVEL/DATA to toggle between NOTE, VEL, and LEN.

Not done this myself, but I’m pretty sure it’s possible. Doesn’t this describe what you want ?

8.3.3 LIVE RECORDING MODE LIVE

[snip] … Any changes to PARAMETER page settings, using the PARAMETER knobs, will be recorded as parameter locks and add lock trigs where needed.

It is not possible to sequence velocity on the Volca FM, this was the reason I sold the one I had a few years ago.

I did read that there’s an unofficial firmware that adds this functionality though.

Edit: it’s also not possible to sequence cc’s from Model:Samples but velocity should work.

Thanks to you both !

@bibenu : I’m pretty sure CCs cannot be sequenced. But I was wondering about parameter locks to change the velocity. I know it applies to samples tracks, but not sure about the MIDI tracks… It’s not obvious actually ! If someone could give it a try it would be supercool !

@djenzyme : I actually installed the “unofficial firmware” for the Volca FM (version 1.09). And velocity definitely IS supported through the MIDI in ! It really adds a lot to expressiveness
Check out : Volca FM firmware 1.09 unofficial – ranzee

Edit : oh my, I read your answer too quickly, hehe

That’s kinda related but I wonder if it’s possible, similarly, to sequence a pitchbend on MIDI tracks…

Cheers
