Amp envelope reset, bug or I don't understand it correctly?

I’m having what seems to me like weird behavior while sequencing some pads. I boiled it down to something that can be easily reproduced:

  • Using the default sound, I set the amp envelope to long attack, full sustain and infinite release.
  • With Amp Env Reset set to on, I get the expected reset from zero when pressing the same key.
  • With Amp Env Reset set to off, the envelope doesn’t start from zero, but I get very audible clicks.
  • I would expect, once the sustain level is reached, that pressing the same key again doesn’t affect the sound at all.

I have Velocity to Vol set to off, and this happens both with the internal trigs or an external keyboard.

Is this a bug in the Digitone or in my expectations?

Well the envelope doesn’t reset if AENR is off so the envelope is cut off abruptly. I think this is expected.
If you hold that key and press another key there is not audible click so I guess each key is “monophonic” I.E. gets retriggered.

This is from the oscillators resetting their phase, which is on by default - as it should be when working with FM/Phase modulation. Try turning (PHRT, SYN2 page 2) it off.

(When the oscillators reset their phase from n to 0, a click will occur due to the drastic change of the signal. The reason why this is on by default is that phase modulation (the digital implementation of FM by Yamaha et al) will have a consistent timbre if the phase is reset on each trigger. Turning it off has benefits though, especially when you are after more organic sounds)

Oh, of course, it makes total sense. Thank you!
