Analog four as external keyboard

Hey everyone!

I have been searching,asking and testing to do this but i cant’ seem to find the way.
So with the midi out update the A4 can send midi out from any track. I managed to sequence an external synth, thats easy, but I want to be able to use the A4 keyboard on the external aswell, just as I can do it with digitakt. I have the channel Midi set both on the A4 and the synth ( in this case it was a VST) but the keyboard doesnt respond.

Ive been told its possible to do it, but what am I missing? Can anybody help?

P59 of the MKII manual says this:

OUTPUT CH selects whether the mini-keyboard and the knobs will send data on the AUTO CHANNEL or the MIDI channel of the selected track.

hey tahnks for the asnwers,

I’ve been testing and select the ‘Auto Chanel’ as the midi chanel where is my external synth and its working like that. I missed that ‘Auto Channel’ thing when i read it, because that output CH you mention doesnt appear exactly on the manual or i cant see it.

The thing is ,if I want to sequence/play 2 external synths I cant switch between the tracks and play them right? cause the kb has set the midi out to one channel and the ext synth listen to different chanels, there is no ‘auto’ option really , is there a way to figure it?

You can sequence them from the CV track and the FX track and set independent midi channels for each.

Hey,

I know I can sequence differente things on the tracks.
What I want to know is if I can play those external synths with the A4 keyboard. I know I can play one, because there is a fixed channel for that (apart from the channel that is sending the sequencer), but i wanted to know if its dynamic.

Yeah set the midi channels for FX and CV track to correspond to the synths. Click on CV or FX track and play keyboard, make sure CV and FX track are set to output midi. The keyboard will play the synth as per the midi channel you set when you are on the CV or FX track

Set both synths to receive the same midi channel? Or if you mean have one sequenced, then play the mini-keyboard for the other, set them to two different midi channels? Then whichever track you are on will use that track’s midi channel (non AUTO option). Or am I missing something here?

You don’t need the autochannel for this. If you were using an external keyboard to control the A4, then you would use the autochannel, os that it will control the currently selected track on the A4.

Thank you both for the answer I finally figured out!

It was inside the midi config -> ports -> the outuput channel wasnt set to track channel. That’s what craig was refering on his first post but I thogut what was referin to some option in the ‘Channels’ page , thats why I got confused.

Now I can sequence on any track and play the kb sending midi on that selected channel.

Have fun! I like sequencing external synths this way - it feels good to be able to control things from the one place.
