Analog Four Encoder Fine Precision

I’m this video, Magna Pia is spinning the A4 encoders a lot while they appear to be moving in very fine increments. It’s not easy to see his A4 screen so I may be wrong, and I know that the movement can be more coarse by pressing in the encoder…but can it be made more fine than the standard setup? Just trying to figure out how he’s managing so much spinning on 1 encoder at a time.

do you have an A4? when you don’t press the encoder down, as you pointed out, the increment is very small

Yes, I just got a Mk2 but the increment doesn’t seem as small as in this video. I mean, I would not be able to spin an encoder as much as Magna Pia does at times in this video without reaching the end of the parameter a lot earlier. At times it almost looks like he’s using parameters with infinite values. I’ve never seen anyone play the A4 like this and would love to know what he’s doing because he sure makes it look and sound very good.

some settings on the MK1s turn really slowly in my experience. i also have a Digitakt and there is a big difference in how quickly the settings on that device change. I assume the encoders and settings for the DT are similar to the A4MK2. I’ll trade you my mk1 if you want the slower encoders :joy:

Ah, that makes sense, it hadn’t occurred to me that the Mk1 has slower encoders. Ha ha, thanks for the offer but the Mk2 encoders are fine. The video just had me a bit baffled so thanks for clearing that up.

If you look closer, you will see that he’s going Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise when he’s twisting the Encoders. A little more Clockwise, though.

Thanks, I noticed that but it still seemed like he could spin them a lot more than on my Mk2, so it makes sense to me now that the Mk1 has slower encoders.

His encoders seem really hot to touch. Nice video though inspiring to do more with these machines together only.

They do ha ha. Yeah, love how they sound here, was on the fence about the A4 but ordered the Mk2 after seeing this.

I love my a4 more than anything else.

Really loving it too. Prefer the Rytm as a performance instrument so far, but the A4 really feels like a desert island box in terms of getting ideas down for full tracks, and the synthesis is so deep.
