Analog Rytm MKII ext in

Any known work around for the low volume ext in on the rytm? Also, does anyone here record ext in on overbridge? Audio only shows up as the fx track unlike digitone that has a dedicated track for external in.

Audio in has its own track. The work around i use is to boost the incoming signal to +4db range line level.
In general, I have found that keeping the pre master level to a low medium gives a wider range of dynamics overall. I boost at the compression stage, distortion stage , or outside the box itself, but try to keep track levels a bit lower.

Using meters on a mixer, I sent a 0dbvu signal into AR inputs and adjusted AR compressor makeup gain until AR output shows 0dbvu.

It’s easy to over load the AR channels, the level of these should be lowered rather than trying to increase the input level imo

Im not really using overbridge though

This is a great tip overall. Thanks! Where can I find the audio in track?? I only have tracks 1-12 and fx on overbridge

Wish I had a mixer. I’m using overbridge basically as my mixer and extra master effects. If I had more audio outs on my interface this would be possible with overbridge. I just wish I could plug directly into rytm like digitone. I’m running out of inputs. The compressor would be perfect for what i want to plug in.

It depends what DAW you are using. On cubase you must activate all outputs. On Ableton, you have to create tracks and assign them.
This is Nuendo (cubase)

Ahh i don’t have the option to assign l/r ext in on ableton. I wonder why you can do this on one daw but not another.

When I’m in the studio later today I’ll pull up my Ableton template. I got it working in there as well.
Cheers.

I think there’s no Ext In separate channel for any DAW, it’s not in standalone Overbridge app as well, the input you see is the Audio In input not the External In.
Audio In is not routed through the main and it has separate channel in OB.
If you’re using OB and want to record external stuff then Audio In is the better input, has much more gain as well. It’s not affected by compressor/distortion but with OB you can actually route it back to AR inputs and have it pass through everything including filters and the effects…

Yes, you can route it through the tracks, but there is also an overbridge channel for the external audio input as well.
If you route through a track, you are sacrificing that track’s audio engine. Using the Audio input (not external input) gives you an extra stereo input through the overbridge interface.

EXT IN? where? I can’t find it…

also you don’t have to sacrifice the engine tracks, you can use them if you want the filters / amp to control send fx etc, but you can route it directly to main or main fx.

I did not find the EXT IN anywhere, only AUDIO IN…

Correct.

For posterity, here is where it is in ableton:
Just create an audio track, assign audio from the track that the analog rytm is active in. On the drop down menu in the track that gives option for pre fx, post fx etc. Select "Input-analog rytm.
Anything plugged into the AUDIO IN on the Rytm shows up there.

As a side note: As previously touched on, you can activate the inputs on the Rytm via overbridge and then use the device as an analog mixer to send any audio through… very cool.

Ext in is next to audio out, it enters the audio path after fx but before compressor. The audio in audio in seems to be fine it’s just the ext in that has low db. I’m guessing this might be useful for module that could have a high output, but I’m not sure because I don’t have any modular setups.

Edit: thought you meant on the machine lol I can’t find the ext in on ableton either. The ext in signal does enter ableton in the fx track, along with every other audio signs entering the fx
