Anybody succefully clocking the Pamela's New Workout with CV from the A4?

Clocking the Pamela’s New Workout module seems like an issue for some people. Reading other forum posts about it I noticed people suggesting a DIN->split jack clock + run cable. I have ordered one of those but in the mean time I would like to set it up with CV from the A4 but can not get it to function. Is anybody successfully clocking their Pamela’s with CV from the A4? Can you please share your settings?

Thanks!

When you say you can’t get it to function what issue are you facing?

You can change the PPQ on Pam, but I’m fairly sure you can set the clock out on the A4 to a division that will give you 24ppq anyway.

I forget the exact option you need but one of the behaviours you can set on Pam is that it ‘Starts’ on receiving a clock - which is what you would want also. I have it working this way using the Clock out on the Oxi One.

I do love that the Elektron boxes can change the MIDI out/thru to be a DIN though, it’s very handy.

I just send 16th note short gates from the A4 to the clock in, it works fine. If I recall I needed to adjust the ppqn setting to get the timing right

This might not be helpful, but I find Pam’s to be a great master clock and a not so great slave clock. So when I’m running a lot of stuff, Pam’s is always the master

I’ve never had any issue slaving Pam and I’ve done it from a few different pieces of gear. Pam is rock solid.

The clock was drifting at best or didn’t start at all at worst. For example, I tried sending clock from CV-B on the A4 and it didn’t work at all. Tried activating all trigs on the A4 set as gates and the PPQ set to 16 gave the right BPM but it drifted and was jittery. I just now tried PPQ 1 and a four on the floor gate from the A4 which actually seems to work! Thanks for assisting!

This is one of the things I tried, and after reading all of your responses I tried setting the PPQ to 1 and activated trig 1, 5, 9 and 15 as gates which actually seems to work! Thanks!

You can output a clock signal from the A4, which should work better than gates - you’ll want as high a PPQ as possible as that will improve stability (as it has more pulses to sync to)

For some reason that doesn’t seem to work. I’ll give it another try though.

I clock my modular with Digitakt via Pamela’s New Workout and it’s super tight with the following setup(should be the same for all the Elektron devices):

  • Buy an ALM din sync to clock/run splitter(

ALM - ALM-UT001 Din-Sync Adapter Cable)

  • Go to A4 settings menu and set Sync B port to DIN Sync.
  • Plug the cable from A4 Sync B port to PNW’s clock/run inputs
  • Profit!

Even if you could clock it from A4’s cv outputs you would need two of them(one for reset) and it’s not worth it, better buy that cable and use the cv’s for LFO duties or whatever

You can start/stop with the clock signal alone. But I’ve had my setup work the way you’re suggesting and it does work great.

That’s exactly the cable I’ve bought so will be using this method when it arrives. Thanks!

You set the “RUN” parameter on the PNW to “RS” in order for that to work right?

Sorry I forget which option it is, but it’s one of them  That’s how I have mine working

I’m using this method since a while back but just noticed that PNW says “UNSTABLE”! at the top of the screen above the PPQN setting. Is it the same for you?

Not at home right now, I will let you know tomorow. Can you also check if the ppqn setting is the same for both Digitakt and PNW(24 or 48)

It’s an A4 but yes they are the same. So you have DT?
