The DT click reduction on changing the filter change is an awesome change too, though I think that’s not going to be possible with analog filters either.
The effects may be digital, but the routing too/from them would need to be analog, and physical. I’m happy to be wrong, I’m just guessing
Well there’s certainly a D/A interface for the external inputs because you can access them separately in the Overbridge plugin (IE they aren’t hard wired to the MAIN output completely)
So I’m assuming here, but also hoping that it’s possible to tap into that D/A internally to route to the effects via digital means!
Thanks for highlighting that. I wasn’t aware as I haven’t used Overbridge yet. I agree that hints at more flexible routing than I had assumed.
Another cool feature would be the ability to route tracks through each other (or at least the inputs) similar to how you can using OB. Turn your rytm into an 8 channel analog filter bank!
2nd LFO
Filter keytracking
New machine that makes the CR-78 Metallic Beat sound
Surely with today’s Digitakt OS upgrade there is an upgrade in the pipeline for the Rytm? Would love that second LFO.
I guess we’ll find out in September/October
Is the filter envelope also analogue?
Being able to pitch down at least 2 more octaves for the samples
A digital HP or base/width filter for the samples
Delayed filter envelope
2nd lfo would be fine
More clap and tom engines
nope
this makes less sense based on the machines tie in which DT isn’t constrained by - but perhaps having an offset could work, who knows, lower pitch would be great
If the filter envelopes are digital, then it would be easier to update those to reduce clicking right?
For the samples though. Not for the synth engines. They go low enough for me, but samples don’t
but they are tied chromatically - they are unavoidably linked on some conceptual levels, so it creates a challenge when the synthesis engines won’t be suited to a broader range - of course both can be run independently and have chromatic modes off - but if they share the same notes range you’d need to offset rather than extend - either way, it is an enticing prospect and if there’s a will, there’ll probably be a way - but it would have to be backwards compatible
lower pitched samples would be very welcome however it can be implemented
i don’t think the envelopes are the issue - it’s what happens in a circuit which has its topology changed - my understanding is that this is what was being discussed in teh DT os - not any reference to envelope reset/attack type clicking - it’s those little transients at the transition when dialling a new filter type in … sometimes
Hmm that’s a little annoying, since that’s my personal feature request nr. 1. It’s something I use a lot in sound design. Pitching down sounds to something entirely different and interesting. It’s almost the only thing that I use the OT for. I almost never use all tracks on the AR anyways, and I’d like to just have 1 Elektron machine. 2 is a little too much fiddling around for my taste
Aarh okay, was just thinking that maybe the envelope would still have it’s say when sharply changing they filter
Resampling can get you there on the AR MKII
Completely unrelated to current events (of course), but what about a “Plaits” machine, the source is there! eurorack/plaits/dsp at master · pichenettes/eurorack · GitHub
I wonder if it would be possible to support “digital oscillator” machines like the prologue, or even more generally “digital generators”.
I’m guessing probably not, as there wouldnt be the dsp for it. I’d give up the sample slot for a plaits-like osc that could then run into the filter/amp.
I think more than anything, more machines. The DT update looks amazing, don’t get me wrong. But I would much rather get an update that brings more machines, than an update that mirrors the DT update.
I’m sure I’m not in the minority here, but when I got to the point where I felt like I was actually ready for the Rytm (both in terms of price and features), I already owned a bunch of gear (synths effects samplers and drum machines). If I needed more LFOs on the Rytm, I can send MIDI LFOs to it. If I really need to run another piece of gear through reverb or delay, I have effects units to do that, etc etc.
For the average Digitakt user, maybe these things are a bit more valuable, if you’re newer to the journey maybe you don’t have all these different pieces so the added functionalities can make things possible that were otherwise impossible in the scope of your setup.
What I can’t do, even with a bunch of other gear, is have more machines for these analog circuits, filters, distortion and compression to take advantage of. So really I think that’s the priority in terms of updates that would take this machine to the next level both in terms of existing users, AND attracting new users.
I really like @dizzy idea about being able to switch out the sample layer for a digital oscillator. People already call the Rytm the most powerful drum machine of all time, adding a digital oscillator/algorithm type thing reminiscent of the Machinedrum would finalize that statement. It sounds far fetched but totally possible…
Me too! Awesome idea. I’ve been trying to dial in different sounds by pushing the analog engines as much as possible. A digital oscillator would offer that ‘sound’ and take this beast of a machine to another dimension. My mind effortlessly conjured up picture Zeus & a RYTM together at the top of Mt. Olympus. Seriously awesome idea!
Yeah on the mk2. But it’s a little annoying to go through that process for something so simple.
My current wish list:
- Master tuning options both pitch and scales
- pitch: ability to set main “Concert A 440” pitch to a customizable range
- scales: options in chromatic mode to use non traditional/western style scales other than equal temperament like just intonation, gamelan, middle eastern, microtonal etc.
- Master retrig default speed setting (unless I’m missing this somewhere)
- Ability to copy and paste patterns/kits with associated sounds/samples to new projects, preferably through a Transfer-like context where you can drag and drop, or do a batch (several at once in order)
- track solo mode feature expansions–ability to use the function button with track soloing to batch solo on and off the same way it works with batch muting/unmuting. A 1 touch shortcut for clearing all soloed tracks at once (returning to baseline all tracks on or current muted/unmuted statuses). Ability to mute and unmute (green) tracks during solo mode for prepping next change.
