AR Analog Rytm feature request thread

If they could squeeze a simple amp envelope (AHD or heck, even just a lonely decay knob) for the sample engine in there as well…man…but I’ll stop dreaming now. AR is my favourite Elektron, all good.

Ha! Sometimes the simplest solution is the best!

jumping on the already heavy bandwagon here but if AR got 2nd LFO and base-width filter on samples, i would absolutely immediately buy one.

other things mentioned that would sway me: improved graphics on par with DT (e.g. compressor), finer control of start, end, and ADR/AHR envelopes

love my digitakt/minitaur combo but i love proper synthesis more and am tired of not being able to dial in the exact kick sound i want. true analog always cuts through the mix.

i would have already upgraded, but the DT’s huge update recently kept it around for longer. if AR got the same? instabuy.

It’s seems simple, but how about a version of slot mode as on the Octatrack. Just map out all the samples loaded in RAM across the pads and trig keys (in banks of 16 of course). That way you could “lock” a bunch of samples by playing the pads, but only use one track…

Is there an external volume control on the AR Mk1? I couldn’t find it. I passed a signal from A4 to AR and the volume is really low even with the A4 at maximum. Had to do it there was around. Any ideas?

Yo I’m almost ready to purchase the LAzer Zun pack it’s been up so long lol

would be cool if every single sound had its own effects with the option of panning and mono / stereo. It would also be nice to see that the analog compression and dirstortion can be used on the individual outputs, as well as the effects mentioned. it would also be cool if every single sound had an analog eq with tunable mids. a second analog filter that can be connected in parallel would also be nice. and a function that allows each individual signal or the complete signal to be recorded and then processed with all the functions of a granular synthsizer, but where there are additional effects such as phasers and flangers and four LFOs.

well, if so. Last but not least, there should be the possibility to set the sounds from 8-24 bit according to gusto, but with plenty of shaping options.

That would require the circuits for a compressor and distortion for each voice as well as eqs for each voice and a filter. Besides the space for all the components that would probaply make Rytm considerably larger and the heat they might generate, think about the cost. 6-8K for an analog drum machine?

It has individual outs…connect all the eqs, filters, distortion and comps you like.

No input gain on the AR. You can either use a mixer or smt that can bring the level up before you hit the inputs or turn down all your sounds inside the Rytm to match the quiet input.
Or maybe run the Rytm into the A4?

shame that the AR doesn’t have an external input control, even though the signal path enters the distortion and compression. It would be great if AR have some controls for external input or even sampling :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: but I guess that has been asked and requested before.
Yes route to A4 is the only way.

that was just an exaggerated wishful thought.

I like the rytm as it is and would not give it up anymore. it would be absolutely cool from elektron if they change something about it again, but if not, then it’s ok too.

I found that A4 into AR is fine as long as I started both from blank projects. The first thing I’ve been doing is creating a Kick on the AR and a bass on the A4, then lowering the level on the Kick to match the Bass (so using the A4 Bass as the reference for all tracks on the AR).

If I start with creating all my drums on AR first at regular levels, before working on A4 bass, leads etc. then the A4 is way too quiet.

I think the issue is really the A4 being quiet as when I plug my Peak directly into the AR it’s much hotter.

I don’t think having control over the input volume will help (like on the A4) unless they added a gain.

oh that I didn’t yet try out. Will try with the DN or DT to compare.

Would love to see the multi map that the A4 has on the AR and subsequently have the ability to instantly switch back and forth between patterns using midi notes.

Outside of that, exp envelopes and an extra lfo wouldn’t go a miss

I love the retrig feature, but it lacks control and playability IMHO - you’re stuck with a repetition of hits for the duration and subdivision selected. What i’m suggesting could open up some fills opportunities, especially on HH and snares, for people like me who use the AR as the band’s drummer.

In the retrig menu, have the option to create a mini sequence of retrigs, where you can choose, microtime and p-lock trigs.

Hit retrig menu. hit a key.

Sequencer opens up with all selected re-trigs lit up. We can then unselect the hits we don’t want to create more rythmically interesting retrigs. Play with velocity parameters, decay, etc. to make the sequence within a sequence more musical.

I select Retrig on step 5, for snare. I select 8th notes, 1 beat. steps 1 to 8 light up. Those are the retrigs. I can chose to play only 1-3-4-5-7-8, play with micro timing/velocity, to create a snare fill for that particular step.

Some improvement in the sensitivity for the pads would be welcome. The current situation is a choice between two compromises; fixed velocity (which I’m sure most people set to 127) or the not very sensitive velocity option which still hasn’t been addressed by Elektron, maybe it’s a hardware limitation and there isn’t much that can be done. Having the option to define some pads as having fixed velocity and some as velocity sensitive would go some way towards improving the playability… Most of the time you want your kick drum at full velocity but let’s say you have a snare and cymbals with velocity mods assigned, a mix of the two options would improve the situation a lot.

i am sure someone already asked for this but it would be cool if we could add filter to master output.

The problem I have with retriggers is that they don’t often record properly. You play something that sounds good and when it plays back most of the hits are missing or it sounds choppy and shit.

Has anyone mentioned a second LFO yet??? :eyes::yum:
