Hi guys
sorry for the dumb question but…is it possible to arrange a drum pattern all on one midi clip for the rytm as opposed to different channels for different voices. I mean, like with the kick on one line, the snare one line up, etc, as you might with a virtual drum machine? Thanks!
Yes, use MIDI notes 1-12 from any channel to do exactly this.
Thanks but I am not sure exactly what you mean
You know that with MIDI control, you have 128 different notes? I am talking about the lowest 12 notes possible within the MIDI spec. So just navigate to the 12 lowest notes of the piano roll within your DAW and use those to trigger all the 12 sounds.
Thanks for the reply. I was trying to make an ableton drum rack (for use with Push), can make them simply enough for, say, Maschine or Arturia Spark, by putting the VST on the bass drum and using external instruments on the other pads, but can’t seem to do it with the rytm, even assigning the lowest possible notes to the external instruments?
Sorry, cannot confirm for Live, but at least in Bitwig you can put “External device” control inside single drum rack “note” and then route that data to whatever midi channel you want. Perhaps you could do the same with Live?
This should not only be possible but straightforward to setup in ableton. You using a pc or a mac? I guess I could make you an ableton project file if you really feel stuck?
Just checked this and it’s really strange - seems like you cannot trig the AR plugin from the same ableton track via a realtime input? I mean, if I just create a midi track and insert the OB plugin, I cannot play it from that track’s “computer keyboard” input. However, if I pipe it through an extra midi channel, it works (ie. playing via computer keyb to another midi track and then sending that track’s midi to the midi track containing the OB plugin).
This creates problems for any drum rack usage as you cannot send midi out from a drumrack (AFAIK)… Am I missing something, or is this OB PLC voodoo at work?
Strangeness continues - I hosed my OB by experimenting with this hing a bit? Now every instance of the OB plugin shows a red circle after instantiation…
Need to check more later, a session awaits.
there is a vid out fom I think Simon, who uses the AR as a midi controlled drum machine, through ableton I think … that never worked for me, and I was surprised to see that…
and I was hoping to find closure in this thread
Thanks guys for your time and your help
Yeah I was really looking forward to creating a drum rack and then using Push’s drum sequencing features to put the AR through some paces
Cannot seem to find a way to do it. Weird. I am sure it is somewhere in the manual though
Another slightly annoying thing is that if you set the AR plug in to have its sequencer synced to Live it doesn’t remember this when you load up the Live set again, though it does with the AK. Anyone else have this problem? It’s only minor I guess…
Based on my brief testing, it would seem that OB is not entirely feature-complete in terms of what might be expected? It would seem that realtime note input to the OB plugin is not 100% implemented yet. No idea why messing with realtime input causes the plugin to hang either…
Would be nice if Elektron could chime in on the matter?
c-2 triggers bd1, and moves up 11 chromatic steps trigger everything in succession.
at c-1 it triggers bd1 in chromatic mode all 4 octaves.

are others unable to do this?

under midi config/mid port config i have
INPUT FROM set to MIDI+USB
PAD DEST set to INT+EXT
RECEIVE NOTES (X)

what i can’t do is get it to record my sequences.
Thanks danlukas, will give it a shot. What do you mean about recording sequences? Do you mean laying down midi notes from the AR sequencer steps? I can’t remember whether Overbridge was announced as being able to do that now or in future. Does anyone remember?
