Forgive me if there is a thread about this, but is anyone using the AR to control the pro 3? and to even ask a scarier question I can’t find a thread for anyone using the AR to control multiple synths?
I use them together a lot. It’s a great combo sonically. What do you want to control? Do you just want to sync the sequencer clocks or do you want to sequence the pro3 with the rytm?
The rytm can sequence external synths but it has a lot of limitations that have been discussed in many threads (note range, lack of independent midi tracks, lack of cc/ pc send, etc).
Thanks @blurrghost. I’ve gotten as far as program changing. I’m having so much fun I was like maybe I can hook up my other synths but I never tried with the AR because of the very public limitations.
Currently when I change sequences on the AR ( A1 to A2 for instance) it switches to a different patch on the P3. However when I do this it doesn’t automatically play the sequence associated with the patch. I haven’t delved in too deep yet.
Are you using the AR to control the P3?
I have both but I don’t use them like you intend.
I think there’s a setting in the Pro 3 to have the sequence play when it’s receiving midi clock (not 100% on this).
You’d obviously need to arrange your presets on the Pro 3 to match the patterns on the AR.
Haha thanks! I love you too
Well, can we all agree what an amazing synth it is? I almost got an A4 and its not fair to compare, but this thing is alive!!!
Yes, yes I can. The pro3 and rytm are two of my favorite pieces.
I don’t think I’m going to be much help unfortunately as I’m not doing what you’re trying to do. I mostly play the pro3 by hand in real-time. Sometimes I’ll start a sequence on the pro3 and just tap tempo sync the rytm and not connect midi at all. If I do connect midi I’m only sending clock, no change settings. As much as I use the rytm I know I could be getting more out of it.
I’m using the Arturia Matrixbrute with the Rytm. That is also a great combo. I sync both to my DAW though, the only real interaction between the two are clock and CV.
The Matrixbrute allows for some really interesting tempo synced CV mixes through the matrix.
Same here. I use the AR on every track. The Pro-3 most of the time.
Pro-3 has a massive range of sounds that have a ton of character. That quality comes with the downside of harder to find sweet spots and more complexity.
Which means it’s synth that rewards effort vs instant gratification. The rewards are great though!
True. Compared to a lot of more traditional synths the pro3 does make you roll up your sleeves and work a bit but I find the dave smith format is a good balance for my brain. It’s not as effortlessly pleasing as a minimoog or ms20 but it’s a lot less work than most of the synths I have kicking around. Maybe I’ve just been drawn to obtuse synths or maybe I’m a glutton for punishment. Though the longer I have the pro3 the less use many of the others get. I can’t even remember the last time I used my kurzweil for anything other than e-piano patches.
