I held off on the mk2 AR/A4 as loved the mk1s. However I do want to upgrade the Rytm for resampling and more channels over USB.
So got me thinking what to do with my old AR…
I would love to mod it to have CV and gate inputs for each voice.
Could this be possible?
Ah do you mean as an alternative use for the AR?
Technically not IM-possible. But it would involve opening it up and having very tiny wires installed and connected at just the right places on the analog board.
Biggest challenges to this would be that A) this is a very modern machine with extremely small circuits and specialized chips which prevent direct access to certain areas of the sound engine. B) Where the CV inputs would be going to is a big question as each engine might not even source the tuning CV from the same place. So much of the Rytm is digitally controlled up to the very last points where it becomes analog.
To get a technician to open the thing up and do 12 CV/Gate input mods would cost many times more than buying a cheap eurorack enclosure and a cheap CV-MIDI converter module and just controlling it that way…if you’re dead-set on generating your control in the CV/Gate domain. Are there particular sources of CV/Gate that you have that offer something above and beyond Rytm’s internal sequencer?
The MK1 AR is still a supremely powerful device, I’m literally downgrading from my MK2 today with another Elektronaut.
