I just figured that the arp settings on digitone get saved with the sound, so i tried to sound lock different sound with arp enabled, and indeed its playing it with the arp!! so thats a kind of p-lockable arp (however quite a workaround again) which leads me to the next question: why cant i change the arp parameters per step when thats obviously how its working internally?
I’ve pondered this before with my AK. I believe it has to do with the internal architecture of the unit - I am really surprised that the arp triggers per sound (I will have to try this on the keys).
All of the sound engine parameters are controlled through midi by the sequencer, so the sequencer can’t send midi to itself. And since the arp is controlled by midi…the sequencer can’t control the arp.
However, since the sound locks are at a higher level in the operating system, they contain the midi data necessary to trigger the arp in a more controlled manner.
On the keys the arp gets saved per pattern not sound that’s why it can’t work there, right.
Back to the digitone : my guess would be that sound locks and parameter locks are kinda the same from a programming perspective, specific values set to a specific step. But maybe you’re right and it’s really saved note data which is not generated on the fly but saved into the sound lock slots . Weird stuff don’t know enough about what would be more efficient in programming, however seems less flexible to me
Yah, I tried it too. Sounds with different arp settings can be parameter locked to the same track. Wow, this is actually a pretty awesome hack. gives you easy access to compose in 1/8th or 1/16th tripplets if you use the same sound with different arp settings, or having <=1/32nd resolution per step without creating patterns at 2x time, all sorts of drumfills and rolls. It’s cumbersome though. Digitone is obviously capable of executing different arp settings per step. Might as well be made accessible in a less roundabout way. (
This is a tasty way of working. I wonder - unless I’m being a dunce - if it’s possible to p-lock the sounds without triggering new notes?
I’ve got a trig on step 1 with INF length and a chord set; I want to p-lock some sound trigs with the yellow trig type so the original note arp cycles and doesn’t retrigger. Possible? I’ve not found it possible so far…
I like to engage arp on drum sounds and simply vary the length per trig to mimic retrig playback
