I wanted to route two of AF Mk II tracks through an effects pedal each and then route the pedals back into AF external in. My goal is to not need a mixer and have four tracks in the AF, of which I can control the volume seperately and fade them in and out: Track 1 as synth, track 2 as track 1 processed through the pedal; track 3 as synth, track 4 as track 3 processed through another pedal. However, for some reason I can always just hear the two synth tracks processed through the pedal on tracks 1 and 3, while there is no sound at all on voices 2 and 4.
I assume it has to do with audio routing options, but so far I couldn’t achieve any changes by changing the routing of external audio or fx to only selected voices.
Setup is as follows: Audio out of track 1 and 3 goes into a pedal each, audio out of these pedals goes into AF‘s audio in left and right respectively. Then I hit the fx track and change panning of external in right and left to center. Next I set osc 1 wave form of track 2 to external left and osc 1 wave form of track 4 to external right, with volume 100 for osc 1 and no wave form and volume 0 on osc 2 of track 2 and 4. Next I set a note of infinite length to step 1 of track 2 and 4 so that audio can be heard, or is there a way to hear external sound without setting steps (as in all digital synths like Digitone it Digitakt)?
This is a pretty excellent idea actually, I think it should be possible. I haven’t yet thought about how it would work, but I will try it when I get home and let you know if I have any positive results. One thing you might be missing is voice configuration. Question, are you using Overbridge?
If you are using the Ext In in the FX track, you don’t have to use Track 2 & 4 to bring the external input in (unless you want to further process them, of course). Then the Ext In volume control becomes the volume controls for Track 1 & 3 with the external insert effect.
Still, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t hear them on Track 2 & 4 if you’ve set the waveform correctly though. One thing that used to get me is that after setting Amp Release to infinite, you still have to trigger a note on that track.
Thanks a lot to both of you! Ah, so if I turn off the external in settings on the FX track I should be able to hear track 1 and 3 dry (meaning no effects from the pedals routed to these tracks, only AF internal ones) and the wet signal from the pedals on tracks 2 and 4.
That explains why I can only hear tracks 1 and 3 as wetted by the pedal so far - I have basically made the pedals into some kind of internal effect, so to speak. Nice idea to keep in mind, but right now I would prefer to keep tracks 1 and 3 dry.
So why is there no sound from the pedals on tracks 2 and 4? I have set a trigger note of infinite length on the first note for each of these tracks. Shouldn’t that normally do the trick? Or is it better to set amp release in infinite, as you described it and then it doesn’t matter whether the first note is set to infinite length or not.
