Me too, i’m gonna stick it out. Too much cognitive dissonance built up to bail out now.
Not defending the company (at all) or the way that it’s run, but the fact still is he’s never not shipped a product or just ‘taken someone’s money’ to date. Products are eventually delivered, just way beyond their promised dates. It’s happened with literally every single run being 6-12 months later than expected. Granted, this will probably be the longest delay yet or tied with his other synth (don’t know much about that one).
He put 26 or so units up for sale a few weeks ago on the site (all pre-orders as well) so it stands to reason those were cancellations that eventually got refunded. I’ll cross post something that was shared on the Avalon Facebook page to someone regarding status from earlier this month.
One day, one day…
Anyone… Bueller?
I forget that I ordered this constantly
i had a Rev.1 avalon and it had problems twice, after dealing with that i sold and have been happy with my cheap ass TD3 ever since…
me too. me too.
It’s absolutely disgraceful that Brian can’t take 5-10 minutes to send out an email update for something that so many people have paid not small sums of money so far advance for and have little to no recourse on now. He just doesn’t understand that sending out some update of literally anything every few months (as absolutely little effort as that is) would placate the majority of folks. He’s seriously a failure as a business owner and there’s zero excuse for it.
I’m still (maybe naively) confident we’ll all get our orders, but I’m very much starting to think it might not be this year. It’s already middle of May with no updates, so Q2 is basically done and Q3 I think is dream. That means at minimum my guess is Q4 or sometime 2024.
It’s sad, but it is what it is. I knew what I was signing up for, so… for me it’s wait it out, move on or some combination of both at this point. What’s done is done.
I basically think the same thing. Very frustrating/I knew what I was signing up for.
Yeah, dunno why we can’t get any real info. It’s not like he doesn’t have a phone or internet.
I’m starting to get angry about this. I’ve given him a lot of money and there’s absolutely nothing to show for it.
Am I/are we just screwed? Is there any use in getting upset? Can anything be done? It’s a real bummer, I could really use that money back if there will be no product delivered.
I refunded a few months ago.
I still have mixed feelings haha, its crazy. On the one hand relief that I dont have to stress about the money (its a lot for me!) on the other hand I really wish I could own one Im pretty confident i will enjoy it so much and never sell it. perfect pairing with my MD
How long did it take to get the refund once you asked for it? I feel the same, I’d love to own one but I just don’t think that will happen at this point
it took about 3 unanswered emails over the course of a few weeks
he never replied i just had 1500 on my paypal all of a sudden
From my understanding pretty much anyone who has done business with Brian warned people that they would be surprised to see it until late this year, not going to defend his lack of communication or ability to set healthy expectations but yeah I assume it is just the type of person he is, best get a refund if you can’t handle the silence and wait time… my wild guess is we are potentially not getting it until late next year.

Understandable!
-
No, it’s just taking an agonizing amount of time.
You can try to bother him for a refund but it’s setting expectations realistically or opting out. You could try to sell your preorder to someone else, but coordinating that can also be a PITA.
-
Depends? I mean my expectations were probably more realistically set here, but what matters here is that knowing this is not a scam/fraud, if you can wait there is no help in being upset.
-
The only thing that can be done is waiting or requesting a refund.
I’ll always empathize with the frustration people feel for not having anything to show for their money, but you can either feel it’s worth the support for the last batch or feel it’s not.
The only thing i won’t sign onto is the (admittedly few) people who think threatening lawsuits is going to get them anything, that may fill them with righteousness but isn’t going to get them anything beyond what requesting a refund would, no faster or with less aggravation.
Obviously we’d all prefer more active communication, hence why i don’t blame anyone for getting miffed.
I expect once his attention is no longer so diverted by the VS-1 https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/abstraktinstruments/vs-1-polyphonic-analog-synthesizer/posts/3748787
we’ll be unblocked with Avalons.
I don’t think it’s always mutually exclusive, in that when there are delays with the VS-1 work could continue with the Avalon batch, and while waiting for cases and parts to come in with the Avalon the VS-1 can be pivoted back to.
Thanks for these responses! My expectations were that it might take a year or two tops more, given his reputation. Even with those expectations I still feel a little unsure that it will ever materialize lol.
Brian should go work for Uli, it seems he’s a brilliant engineer with shit customer service skills…
