Behringer RD-6 606 clone

So question is, how much will the RD-6 be? 149, 159 or 135?
Guess we will have to wait and see…

Looks like 149 euros according to their FB.

Thank you! No Facebook here… thank god! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Yeah, 149 would have been my guess.

product page: “Highly acclaimed and authentic clap sound from the BR-110 drum machine”

FB presser: “added the famous clap sound from the DS110”

the machine in question is the DR-110:

two tries to get the name right. couldn’t do it. wonder how well they copied that circuit…

The clap and hats are the best things about the DR-110. I think I’d get the RD-6 just for the clap if it gets it right…
Also, what if “BR-110” isn’t a typo but actualy a future model?

possible. but how “highly acclaimed and authentic” is the clap sound from a future release?

Who knows…

Model Samples does the DR-110 clap as well.
Highly acclaimed, by me.
And as authentic as a 48khz sample of a drum voice that effectively only has 1 parameter (accent) can be.

It cannot do the BR-110 however.
Outright refuses to.

That is my thought as well.

any word on the midi implementation?

I’d be pretty annoyed if I bought a 606 clone and it gave me the clap. From a “Dr. Rhythm” no less…

I know, I know.

Couldn’t resist.

A Dr. is the last place you’d expect haha

None that I’ve seen but rd8 is quite basic , I doubt it has much ( unless they’ve listened to rd8 complaints ).

Probably just note trigger and velocity all on one midi channel ( I’d be surprised if it had pitch control )
Maybe pattern change.
Midi tempo , start stop etc.

In fact on rd8 I think accent is global , not per step / instrument trigger. Can’t remember …

I meant for the rd6, lol

Sure

I wouldn’t expect much more than the rd8 spec. That’s what I meant.

that makes a lot of sense

spec page says “Comprehensive MIDI In/Out/Thru and USB implementation for synchronization and connection to external devices”

looks like the Out is just for Sysex responses, or a soft-thru option. but yeah, the In basically only responds to note triggers and velocity: “Accent can also be programmed via MIDI or USB by using a velocity value of 110 or higher. When a note is programmed above the 110 velocity level, all other sounds triggered at the same time will be accented too”

“comprehensive” huh…? anyone here who’s owned any Elektron device ever made (including the Sidstation) would beg to differ.

Whats the point of making hardware if the midi implementation is crap.
I’ll take the Roland boutiques and all their short comings over the Behringer clones any day of the week

I kinda wish Behringer did more stuff like the Deepmind (It’s an excellent synth)

Selling it I guess. Most users are happy if the midi sync is fine on these boxes I assume

From a technical standpoint adding extensive midi control has a number of problems:

  1. Behringer would actually have to do some R&D which costs money, unlike just copying circuits and re-laying out PCBs.

  2. Adding the necessary mcu and associated support circuitry isn’t trivial, the circuit would have to be changed to accommodate it.

  3. Adding extra circuitry to support midi would undoubtedly impact how close it would sound, for example the hi-hats rely on a very precisely detuned square wave network, so to add tuning via CC isn’t as straightforward.

TL:DR Cheap is cheap for a reason
