Yeah found this today, already watched 3 times!
Iāll echo what others have said above. Get something Multi-Timbral. If you speak synth and know how to program sounds, any of the access synths, even an older Virus A, would be great. If your new to synthesis, get any of the Nord Lead line. Iāve owned a 2X, 3, and now a 4 and the Nord Leads are great for people just getting into synthesis because of their 1-knob per function nature, and they sound damn good. Honorable mention goes to my personal favorite Multi-Timbral synth, the Korg Radias. The Radias has excellent effects, youāll get 4 voices out of it, and it has a ton of synthesis tools available, plus a COMB FILTER!!! Even an older Korg MS2000 would be good. Pretty sure the rack version of it can be had for pretty cheap on E-bay these days.
What ever you get, Iād highly recommend you make sure itās multi-timbral.
I think multitimbral is kind of overrated, honestly, especially when youāre just going to resample it. It really depends, though. The way the MnM does it is great because the voices can interact with each other through routing and/or track trigs. Most synths Iāve used do multitimbral like itās just 4 synths in one box.
I think it comes down to style and taste. If you have more orchestral, maximal leanings then multitimbral makes more sense. For the more minimal, techno minded, multitimbral synths can feel priggish, awkward, and detached. That said, I still fantasize about pairing my OT with an NL2 because it seems so immediate, and the drum kit mode seems fantastic - thatās my kind of multitimbral.
The sh-01a is not actually analog is it? It sounds pretty good in the demos, but Iām guessing the fake analog would be more noticeable in person.
Thatās interesting. Would you post a track of this combo for us?
it doesnāt really matterā¦ the Digitakt isnāt analog, yet it sounds good. Everything Iāve seen/heard about the sh01-a indicates that itās a competent-sounding, even ādopeā little synthesizer (w/polyphony)
together, theyād make a super-compact, highly functional (powerful) combo/pairing.
Haha I kind of agreeā¦ oddly in ok with the 1m, green leds are fine by me the green trim with the leds is a bit much as the greens donāt match at all. Yamaha CS01 mark2 actually looks really nice and has green trim in a similar way to the system 1 so I wonder if there are greater design problems at work on the regular system 1 as far as purely looking good.
I guess if your ears canāt hear the difference between analog and digital oscillator, noise generators and filter, then yeah it doesnāt matter.
Most synthesists however can hear the difference. Hence the reason why people still uses analogs when digital ones are so much cheaper. The original SH-101 for instance has one of the best analog noise generators Iāve ever heard.
Not to mention that thereā already an SH101 plugout from roland thatās only 150 bucks.
Furthermore if youāre sampling from a digital source with āaudio inā youāre going to encounter a certain degree of diether that you wouldnāt get recording from an analog noise source.
Iām willing to be if you side by sided a real sh-101 with the new fake youād hear why Iām not excited about the digital one.
maybe take a look at the Korg Monologue, if youāre thinking something closer to an SH-101 (at a great price) - itās a fantastic, monophonic synthesizer.
if i had to choose one it would be the Matrixbrute. Or a vintage Super Jupiter. Itās quite existentially agonising to try choosing between the two, thankfully both are out of my current price range so itās all hypothetical.
I swore to not buy anything until I had mastered the mono machine but this video really makes me want a 0 coast. I shall resist the urge!
hereās another track to put you off of the 0-coast ;|
Itās on my radar, but I think iād rather wait and see if this rumored Behringer 101 clone materializes any time soon.
In the mean time I got my eye squarely on that 0-coast. I like that video. Iād like to hear more of what the 0-coast sounds like when you attempt to do 303 acid house type stuff with it.
You should really try these boutique series, they are frankly worth it IMO.
I had an incredible time with the 0-Coast yesterday night, this synth is wild !
An OB-6. Mine just arrived and Iāve been bugging out on the filter for the last hour. My god it is musical.
Problem is itās soo expensive, had to sell my soul to buy one
I was going to post the OB-6 as my pick as well, but not really because itās particularly suited for the Digitakt, but just because it is my desert island synth (if I could have only one).
get a mono.
Yeah, any decent mono is good times with a sampler, especially an Elektron. I do recommend you get something with 2 oscillators, thereās just a lot more fun to be had that way.
microkorg
yeah i bought a SH01a, will see how it goes once it arrives. Aus release date is 12 of November
