Can analog four make sounds like BLAWAN?

Done few lines before the interview and he’s like that pleb at the party who won’t shup up believing his mundane tales are stories of gold we all need to hear riding on a Columbian confidence wave. Terrible interviewer

He apologized in the comments, seems like the critic got go him a bit. He basically said that he knows Blawan for quite some time and wanted to do a guys talk about nerdy stuff style talk thingie, but didn’t really go so well…

Btw, A4 can do really weird stuff, try am and osc fm, filter fm, try to let the two filters interact with resonance turned up to accentuate certain harmonics, modulate everything and don’t forget the noise oscillator, with the sample rate you can add grainy bits and pieces. Lfo an envelope stages can sometimes produce crazy stuff in a sequence. Lfo and p-locks on the fx track (!).

Feedback oscillator and neighbour tracks can go to another level.

The Anlog Four ist capable of a huuuge range of sound and rhythms.
Blawan like, no problem

just A4, no external processing/mixing etc. plain 2ch. recording
(loaded an old pattern, twisted i bit into Chrorusy/noisy terrain)

It can do a lot of percussive sounds. This is just 2 tracks son the a4 and much darker but this should give you an idea on top of what @dubmo posted (which sounds very DFAM ish).

As you said you have an OT with Phaser, so good to go. I would look into the COMB FILTER on the OT with some kicks too. Can get some neat modular like sounds with it.

This music is horrible - it is the same loop across the first 6 minutes I have listened…

we call it techno
Believe it or not, some of us think 6’ is too short.

Hey… I actually used the XKCD reference as a title for a released track. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Fun tip if you don’t have a phaser you can make a “fake” phaser-esque sound by slapping an LFO on a band reject filter.

Thanks man!
The A4 is on fire (since 10 years now here)

I love Blawan!
If it could be helpful to anyone I made a modulargrid rack with his system from the video.

I tried to see in the video (but I couldn’t take it watching the interview again lol), so maybe you know: where’s the kick coming from?

sorry man only blawan can make the blawan sounds

He said 808 kick through Rings in the video.

Looking at the rack, no idea where it’s comin from, tho. Lol. Wait a minute. https://youtu.be/nOhpbLg0CEw?t=2076

Maybe synthesized?

Btw, Blawan seems to do some wavefolding, I hear in many tracks, so that´s something you can´t really do in the A4.

Maybe Rings can be striked itself as a kick?

He says “the 808 is going into the Rings”. Hmm, i´m trying to decipher his sphagetti there…

He says he splits the signal, one mixer channel for the kick and one for Rings. It must be the module next to the hats. So Tiptop BD808 instead of MA808 that´s in the modulargrid rack.

Edit, Yeah, can clearly see it on the YT vid, 4 knobs, 3 jacks, that´s the BD808.

I tried that “808 kick into Rings”, yesterday. IIRC he had a 4 step sequence from the Tirana II going into Rings V/Oct. Sounded pretty much like in the Thomann jam video (you can see how the knobs are set, so not really an accomplishment, but it was fun). The reason why I mention it is this: it’s a nice way to basically derive a background texture/sequence from your kick - naturally in sync.

Btw, the free version of VCV Rack has a pretty good software Rings and everything else you need.
