Chase Bliss Generation Loss MKII

Right, but I think the question a lot of us have is was the HPF on everything a planned product characteristic that was modified to meet a customer preference or a defect?

Personally I think it was just a bad design decision and not enough testing with different sound sources and/or enough beta-testers.
Once the pedal was released like that, they were left with only bad options: either they would ignore the complaints and limit the potential market for the pedal, or they would try to fix it somehow and generate this whole “no mod vs mod” debacle.
At the end of the day I truly believe Joel did the best he could to deal with a very unfortunate situation, and he would get flack anyway if they didn’t fix it.

For my usage I’m super happy with the “modded” version and ultimately I’m glad they gave us that option. Of course people who prefer the original version are in a much worse position, because the limited availability will surely mean prices for those will skyrocket in no time.

Maiden voyage last night.

Makes for a beautiful tape trio alongside the Red Panda Tensor and the CB Mood.

I was in tapey heaven last night, more or less processing a short segment from my electro-acoustic tongue-drum which was going back and forth in the Tensor and Mood before being processed by the Gen Loss and finally into the Soma Cosmos.

Took all the smooth, sparkling lustre off the tongue drum snippet and it became a disjointed, warm fuzzy mess, that somehow held itself together so as not to invoke total chaos.

“Playing” pedals is a bit of a newfound joy for me, and a good way to get used to the different nuances and tricks.

Joel said it was intentional and that he prefers it with the HPF, so not a defect, just a customer preference.

In the event that you didn’t record the aforementioned session, or a part of it, would you mind reproducing and sharing a piece of this? Your FX tastes are similar to mine. I have a gen. loss mk2 arriving today too. I hope to give it a whirl tomorrow, possibly even running it with the CB Habit.

Sure thing.
In a rare turn of events I hit record before I started.
I just need to chop, trim and check the levels in audacity then I’ll upload it.

Mine arrived today. I’m hoping to test it today… maybe even use it for Jamuary fun.

Here we are.

A quick n dirty edit of what was very much a recorded exploration rather than an intended polished piece of something.

This is quite enjoyable. It reminds me of playing with a Ciat Lonbarde Cocoquantus, where simple sounds get morphed and blended into a blanket of sound. Do you think the Cosmos is doing a lot of that here, or is it the sum of all the pieces involved?

Good question.
I think the Cosmos was doing the weaving, so to speak, pulling things together and providing the cloth onto which patterns emerge. Instead of leaving it on throughout, I was periodically recording on and off, to avoid too much dissonance building up at once.

The Tensor and the Mood were more in the foreground, having a conversation and the Gen Loss kind of provided something like a wash effect, processing their combined outputs.

Of course, none of this was planned, and the real joy was to realise that the pedals had taken on a life of their own in their interactions, whilst I gave things a prod and a nudge here and there

I think I’ve been influenced by listening to works by The Humble Bee who does this sort of thing really well, probably with actual tape. A lot of his productions have a distinctly dry aesthetic, which is an oddly refreshing experience for someone temperamentally who gets drawn into the widescreen of reverb so easily!

love this, do you have a video of this setup?

Glad you enjoyed it.
Unfortunately I’m still in the stone age on that one (audio only).

It would be fun to set up some video at some point though.

Thanks for your thoughtful and detailed response! You really helped me understand the interactions of what’s going on. Also good to know how Cosmos could eat everything up and get out of hand if left on full-time. Whatever you did in that example definitely “worked”. It sounds great. Nice one.

That was beautiful.

Got mine recently and finally played around with it today. It’s pretty phenomenal and can’t wait to use it for a million different things. Only thing I hope they modify in a firmware update is the amplitude modulation introduced in tandem with the wow/flutter. I would really like to have strong wow/flutter with stable volume, and without having to switch everything to Classic Mode. Fingers crossed they think of this, maybe I can email them.

Just as a waypoint for anyone wondering, UK/EU number #736 is apparently on it’s way to me!

Are you sure there is no dip switch/hidden option to adjust that?

Curious about whether all of you are even using tape modes or not. I found that I ditch them altogether so far for more musical effects on low settings. They are mostly too abrasive/filtery. For destroying stuff/recording weird samples however they are great.

Unfortunately no, there are hidden parameters for customizing the levels of the various noise types and dip switches for bypassing the volume drop/snag/hum which are part of the Failure parameter, but nothing for customizing the volume fluctuations that are part of Flutter. I suppose my best bet is to just use Wow and only use Flutter in very subtle amounts.

Just got this pedal today… Not much time with it but it’s amazing, I am using it mostly on an Udo Super 6.

A while ago I tried to get the Cooper GL2 but was too late, and instead ended up with the Cooper Arcades (which I still have). But it didn’t quite scratch the itch. I am very happy I didn’t get it, as the amount of settings and control with this is awesome.

Anyone still “Team” original hardware (i.e., no mod) and firmware?
