I’ve asked them via Insta. The rep told me that she doesn’t know for sure with which serial number batch 2 started. But all of batch 2 is supposed to be modded. She says that if it shipped over the last couple of weeks, it should be the modded version.
“Over the last couple of weeks” is a bit vague. I think they should really find out at which number they exacty started modding it.
Maybe I should join Instagram. Writing a regular support ticket seems outdated these days. You forgot mine CB!!
Making the update is special…, seems like a much more convoluted process than most pedal makers’ firmware update process.
Documenting exactly what serial number they started doing the mod really should be something that they’ve already done, and it should be posted publicly. I know that they are a small company and they’re (presumably) doing their best but this whole thing has been handled kind of sloppily.
Yeah would make so much sense to be able to target them by serial numbers.
Mine is #03849 and I ordered very early, I think the first, or second day they announced the 2nd batch. Not sure in what order, or any order at all they write (with a marker) the serial numbers on the units. I read at “thegearpage” there were 5000 units in the 1st batch.
I’m not even sure whether the serial numbers are starting at zero with each batch or are continuing across batches.
I finally found the time this evening to run some of my material through it. I really really like what it is doing. It sounds especially good on guitar sounds, little surprise. It kinda makes it not matter that I am a bad player, somehow even fits the mood better if the sound is broken and the playing as well. This really encourages me to use guitar more in my music.
The models with a heavy hi pass are quite useful for performance. And I like them combined with higher noise settings. The whole wobbly analog feel also acts as a nice additional LFO for Digitone sounds that are already a bit wonky. I will definitely use it for finally recording some of my stuff, several elements seem like the feeling of Gen Loss is just what they needed to shine brightest.
Oh I also ran some sixties recording samples with vocals through it and the Gen Loss sound was blending so perfectly with the style.
Got my new version today (SN 4330) and it’s definitely modded. It’s soooo much better for my purposes than the original version, really happy I sold the original and got this one instead.
@tendingtropic: Still interested in buying batch 1? I like the sound of batch 2, so I figured instead of wasting time on comparing the two, I will just start making music and sell the first batch unit. If you are interested, send me a PM. I will otherwise put it on Ebay.
Thanks! but I’m a batch 1 owner! however, the cool guys at CBA office in Amsterdam offered me to come by the office this week to try out a batch 2/modded version and compare (and see which I prefer). Lucky to have a CB office within a 5 min bike ride from my house!
That’s great! I had already thought about how ironic it would be if I sent you the pedal to Amsterdam, when CBA is next door.
If anyone else is interested, send me a message. I will otherwise put in on Ebay tomorrow.
i received mine last week, didn’t try it as osmose comes two hours before XD.
Looks like we can still downgrade it if we don’t like this flangy thing.
I think i’ll go flangy on liveset as latency would be more problematic, and 1.00 on studio use.
How do you want to use both versions? Buy 2 pedals?
Update! Daniel from CB just wrote me:
"You are correct. This must’ve slipped by our production team. So sorry!
If you’d like to have the mod, we’ll get you a prepaid label, and you can have it sent back for the mod at no cost to you.
Let me know!"
Glad they gave the answer I wished for. Great support!!
If possible, they should really make the OS update have an option to revert back to original OS latency with some sort of button combination or something imo. It’d really be a nice feature to easily select between flange and chorus when desired.
This whole mod thing, it’s a little blown out of proportion, no? Yeah? I mean, it’s a Gen Loss fx unit. The name literally implies loss.

That would make the most sense. I imagine that having a “forked” firmware isn’t ideal. I wonder how they’ll handle it.
As someone who doesn’t own this pedal but has been passively keeping up with this thread, the mod situation has been a fascinating case study in how to handle customer feedback.
It seems like CB offered this update with the best of intentions but probably underestimated the confusion/frustration that would result. It’s a natural consequence of making people face a choice or any kind of “this vs. that” thinking — they’re going to want what they don’t have, going to assume the other version is better, feel shortchanged, etc.
I don’t want to derail the thread but this comes up all the time in user experience design: if you can funnel people in one clear direction, they’re generally more satisfied than if you force them to make decisions (even if those decisions open up additional possibilities that might please them more).
Anyway, I bet this pedal sounds wicked whatever batch you get, and if anyone wants to offload theirs out of pure annoyance I’m happy to provide my address.
I’m confused by the complaints around the bass mod. All it did was set the pedal to a more neutral EQ curve by default. Couldn’t you use one of the Models built in to curve off low end if you need it? Or switch to classic and use the HP?
Regarding the dry signal: shouldn’t the “dry” signal be unaffected? I’m confused. The idea of “dry” mix is blending in the original sound of your instrument with the affected signal of the pedal. If the “dry” signal is affected by the pedal, it isn’t really a dry signal.
That being said, nothing wrong with liking the original voicing! I’m just trying to see the upsides, which at least to me just seem like a generally more flexible pedal.
Exactly.
