Depends. If tempo is a factor, they’re sequenced. When it’s not, I play them live from a keyboard (my MFG Extra Deluxe).
The results are quite different, since sequenced loops tend to become not just tight versions of a played sequence but something else entirely. And the sequencer plays a part. Some of my own favourites were all sequenced from the Deluge, whereas the more haunted drones and long form sections are keyboard. The more Kraftwerk-ian something sounds, the more likely that sequence came from the blackbox.
