Muting with Retrigger pressed soloes channel(s), which is cool, you can thus solo more channels and unsolo into the previous muting state. It would be really great if you could
- Unsolo all. Especially useful if you use solo as a creative function and get to a point nearly all channels have been soloed. Unsoloing single-handedly would let you control encoders for buildups etc.
Here is how to implement it.
Once a channel is soloed, retrigger button becomes somewhat obsolete for unsoloing: if you hit a soloed pad, when you hit the pad again, channel gets unsoloed regardless of whether Retrigger is pressed. This is a terrible thing to waste
Improvement:
Unsolo to be done by hitting soloed pad
unsolo all - by pressing Retrigger additionally
Single-handed, useful, and a function that is itself very useful.
- keep changing mute states while soloed (to take effect upon unsoloing)
So when you have a certain state of mutes, for example most tracks playing except ride,
- mute kick to release the accelerator pedal so to speak
- solo snare
- add solo CH
- then add solo toms, clap…
At this point you start thinking how to get out of it with an impact.
Unsoloing in one go would be very useful here, although on certain occasions it might feel a bit cheesy to unsolo to the state before soloing and do some further changes past the beat one. With 16th notes and at high bpm this might be tricky - you would unsolo too early (to manage with unmutes before beat one, or vice versa)
Instead
you could use function button - which still has (mark you Elektron Team) no use while in solo - to do the following:
- unmute kick and ride - this would not be apparent to the dance floor yet
- at the very end of the bar unsolo all, with kick and ride being on as well.
I wonder what you think. Personally, I would love such features, and they appear to complement the existing functionality and make use of buttons which will otherwise be remain obsolete.
Importantly, it enable more creative approach to soloing/muting, proven in other devices and platforms: mute and solo can be and in many systems are independent and enable bulk changes, such as unsolo all.
