CV sync to Keystep glitching, what signal/settings should I use?

I’m connecting my A4 to a Keystep (CV D to sync In) to sync the Keystep’s arp. The keystep’s connected to Octatrack > A4 > other synths via MIDI, master MIDI clock coming from the Octatrack.

I couldn’t get it working using the ‘Clock’ setting on A4, the best results I’ve had so far are by using ‘Trig’ on the A4 with 4 trigs in a bar on the FX channel sending to CV D, and ‘1pulse (Korg)’ on the Keystep. It syncs fine at first but at the end of every few bars (seemingly at random) it misses an arpeggio step and glitches out of time.

I’m fiddling around with random settings for voltage/length/etc. as I haven’t really used CV before. Can anyone recommend what settings I should use on either side or what might be causing the glitches? The options for ‘sync clock in/out’ settings on the Keystep are:
1 step (Gate)
1 step (Clock)
1 pulse (Korg)
24ppq
48ppq

Correction - just tested it with a click now and it’s not ‘glitching out of time’, it just misses occasional notes in the arpeggiator (sometimes it’ll just be a missed note, other times it’ll hold a note for longer before continuing and then the arpeggiator will be out of phase with the track).
