It looks like Elektron have, with Overbridge, nailed the delay compensation issue that plagues MIDI devices recording into DAWs, using their own proprietary method. Although the ‘Analog’ series boxes aren’t necessarily controlled from the Overbridge DAW interface via MIDI, they allow MIDI control via Note, CC, NRPN, SysEx and transmit MIDI.
Seeing as the A4, AK and AR show up us both audio and MIDI interfaces in the DAW, does this mean that OB can handle compensating for MIDI notes sent out from the DAW via, say, A4 to an external synth which is routed back in through the A4’s external inputs?
Thanks! This is very cool Overbridge is really quite wonderful…
Once the Overhub is released it looks like things are going to get fun with this multitracking lark. I am tempted to consider a second A4 even
OK - I’m trying this out, but it looks like I cannot get the A4 or Rytm to spit out MIDI from their MIDI Out DIN ports. I can send MIDI to A4 from Ableton, but nothing is coming out on channels 1-16 from the A4 into my MIDI synth (Integra 7). Ableton ports are all set up correctly, and the MIDI ports on A4 are set correctly (MIDI, not Sync24 etc). My MIDI cable is working OK with my audio interface’s MIDI Out.
Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? DO I have to send MIDI out via the A4 to get correct compensation or just receive the audio back in from it?
Simon @ Elektron Support has confirmed that OB does NOT send MIDI notes from your DAW to the MIDI Out of your OB-enabled device.
Real shame Back to delay-compensating, it seems … bwah!
