Thanks to this forum’s help, I’ve been able to set up a new DFAM with my analog four and really make it sing. Super excited about this combination. I am running a trig cv out into the adv. clock input of the DFAM, and running the VCA directly into the Ext. In of the A4 to use the effects. My question now is: does anyone know if there’s away to configure CV or ext. in in such a way as to use the A4’s filters, LFOs, or envelopes? I’m not sure how this would work but it seems that on the CV track of the A4, it offers some of that stuff, but I think I’d need to run a pitch v/oct cv out from the A4 into the DFAM. Just not sure how to make this work. Thanks so much!!!
i just picked up a dfam this week, so i’m curious to know what the possibilities are. so far i’ve just used the a4 cv to clock the dfam and run the audio out to be able to use the a4 fx. really a nice combo, even with a simple set up like this.
Agreed! believe it or not I don’t really like having a lot of gear so i’m planning to keep this as my entire setup for at least the foreseeable future
Octatrack would work extremely well for that setup as a mixer and effects unit as well as allow you to sample the DFAM. Imagine the possibilities the crossfader brings…
i don’t have an OT, but i do have the a4 routed to the DT for sampling, then into ableton for processing. love the dfam already for easy poly rhythms.
You can use any of Tracks 1 to 4 and set the oscillator type to Left In and/or Right In. It will pass the external signal through all of the envelope amd filter stages just like any other voice on the synth. You still need to put trigs down on the Track you’re using or else envelopes don’t trigger. I “think” you could just set the CV you’re using to trigger to be programmed on the same voice track you’re using as well.
Through a weird twist of fate, I no longer have my A4 so I can’t give a step by step but you can absolutely route an external in through a voice track by assigning it to an oscillator (instead of using Saw Pulse or whatever. It’s another option in there). And you’re definitely not limited to using the CV track for inputting triggers. You can configure CV A or any other CV to use the triggers on any of the 6 tracks.
Nice! thank you that works. Do you know of any way to only get the track with the Left in assigned to the oscillator? seems like i have to have the CV track enabled but when i do that i am getting a combination of the two tracks using external audio. thanks again
Using Track 1 as the example, go to the OSC1 page and go to the waveform type. You can set it to L Input. Assuming you’re using CV A as the gate for the trigger advance, go to the CV A setup page ( I can’t recall which settings page it is offhand so you’ll have to do some digging) and set it to Track 1. Now, set Track 1 active (press the track button on the right side of the synth). Input some steps on the triggers. When you hit Play, the CV A gates will be sent to the DFAM, the audio will be routed to Track 1 OSC 1 and will pass through all of the voice stages there.
Edit: You’ll likely also need to go to the FX track External Input page and mute the left input so you don’t get both the Track 1 audio and the external input audio at the same time. You’d need to test this though.
