Different settings for the same sound in other patterns

I started to dig deep into the A4, but from time to time it still give me headache.
This time: Pattern Management :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I am aware that some of the settings are taken over, when changing the patterns.
It is still not 100% clear to me, when this is done, but right now, I am just saving pattern and kit as soon as I did changes, which I like and this works for me.

Now I want to create several patterns to jam around with. For that, I would like to have more drive for some patterns, which I would like to achieve by changing the parameters on certain patterns (i.e. raise the Decay on one track).
My issue is, that the changes are taken over, when changing back to another pattern.

Is there a way (As I know Elektron, I am 100%sure, there is) to save my changes in a pattern, without have it in the other? If yes, how to do that?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Save it in another kit. Check the manual, it is helpful to understand the data model of the A4. For this what you need to know:

  • Kits: they save the sounds from the tracks as a collection of “presets”
  • Patterns: save the steps, p-locks, etc.

A pattern has a kit attached to it, so what is happening to you is that you are using, let’s say, pattern A1 with Kit 1, then copying A1 to A2-A16, all of those are still using Kit 1. What you can do is save Kit 1 to Kit 2 slot and change the patterns you want to now use Kit 2, change the Decay and it will only apply to patterns using Kit 2.

Anyhow the manual is very detailed about it, give it a read on the Kits and Patterns section.
