Digitakt USB to Roland MX1

Hej,
I have an issue with my Digitakt OS 1.2 connecting to my Roland MX-1 PC Input via USB.
Issue is: no Sound thru that Connection coming out of the MX-1.

Digitakt is set to USB MIDI & AUDIO
MX-1 is set to 48Khz 24Bit

Not sure if a Special Driver is required on the MX-1 side to enable accepting Audio from the Digitakt via USB. NOt sure if have forgotten another Setting in Digitakt to enable Audio Out via USB,

Any constructive ideas are welcome

The MX-1 usb ports are only for certain Roland gear, like all AIRA stuff, boutiques, JD-XI, Phantom etc

Sure. And they work perfect with my Aria gear. I am Talking About the USB Port connected to the channel PC. To my understanding, this should allow Audio Input via USB from a DAW and or generic USB Audio data. especially this is not working. Hence 48Khz with 24bit is enabled on both machines, so Sound out of the MX1 via that channel.

Unfortunately it won’t work as the Digitakt doesn’t have the drivers for the MX-1 that a PC would have.

The MX-1 is not USB class compliant unfortunately. It won’t connect without drivers.

THX. WTF.
It is what is……

I had the MX-1 for a while. I really enjoyed the performance aspect of it. I really hope Elektron release something along these lines (many have requested/speculated for a long time!).

You can get around the limited number of inputs by using the Roland Aria effect modules. Connect them to the Aria USB ports and then run the DT/etc through the module. The modules are actually really cool in their own right, but can be a little noisey.

Hej,

I have an AIRA Bitrazor connected already. You mean These Units?

Exactly. There were 4 of them.

yes. they´re cool - but quite costly as well. I guess I will go for the oldskool Approach by unsing a proper mixer again and Keep the MX as a performer-tool, rather than the centerpiece of my Studio. I think Roland should Change their Settings regarding the USB Ports, that are AIRA only to really gain Ground for all Kind of gear.

Ah, never thought about that…That´s actually a really good approach, because it´s possible to completely change the signal flow of those Aira fx modules with the editor app, so it would be possible to transform them into a channelstrip or something else you´d want to have at the input stage.

Unfortunately I don´t have an MX-1 nor any Aira modules, but I like the idea…

Those are the modules:

Yep, they’re insanely customisable. Got a couple cheap just as they were discontinued.

I used to have the mx 1 and absolutely loved it. Ultimately sold it because Roland hobbled it with their usual bs and the whole AIRA line kinda died off making the USB ports useless. Plus there weren’t nearly enough analog ins.

I too wish that Elektron would make something like it.

A mixer with way more inputs than the mx1.
Make it work via usb with all their gear plus have a lot more analog ins/outs.

How awesome would it be ?

Elektron mixer, usb audio and midi with Elektron devices.
Tons of I/o and sequencable p-lockable, trig conditions etc fx !!

Man that would be epic for real.

C’mon Elektron. Think about it.

Hej,

yeah Right. I think Roland just went half the way…like they Always do at first….
First they launch the TB3 and then years later a real silverbox…

An elektrom mixer called BLAND (swedisch for mix), with at least 8 analogue and 4 usb Inputs, with DIN/USB/MIDI sync Features and some AUX FX from their machines and some MASTER FX from the analog heat….

Yeah, Roland kinda sucks. It would be cool if they made an updated version of the MX1.

But an Elektron mixer would be so AWESOME!!!
They already made the digi boxes class compliant so they could use that.
Heat FX is a really good idea too.
But the sequencable FX would really put it over the top!

Though the Aira range seems finished remember the MX1 USB ports 1-4 can be used for other Roland gear, the boutiques and possibly the MC-101/707 too, plus a few other Roland synths.

Yeah I remember when they updated that.
I think I’ve given up on Roland for the most part.
I did like the mc 101 but I ultimately sold it. For some reason I always end up selling my Roland stuff. None of their stuff ever ends up in my rig permanently.

If they were to make an updated MX1 though, I’d probably buy it. It’s a really great idea but it wasn’t finished.

Elektron should make one. If it was proprietary to Elektron devices I wouldn’t even mind.

Just want to add that it’s possible to use the aux sends/returns routed to one of the usb channels as an extra stereo in. It’s also possible to buy a fairly cheap analog to SPDIF converter to use the digital in; or so I’ve read somewhere (I use my Virus’ digital out).
