Digitone 1.21 - Bug on program change

I found something that sounds like a bug in this lovely box.
Context: 1) external synth connected by midi to the DN. 2) two patterns with program change set to a value X followed by two patterns with program change set to value Y.

Suppose that I am on the second pattern (digitone is not playing), and I change the program by hand on the external synth and I select the first pattern using PTN button (it has the same program change X of the previous): the program on the external synth is not being changed. It changes only if I select the third/fourth pattern (the ones that have program change Y).

So I think that when I change from a pattern to another by hand using PTN button, if the two patterns have the same program change (but also the whole midi config) the digitone will not send the program change again…I think that also if they are identical, would be correct to send it anyway…so if someone did some changes on external equipment everything will be in the right place selecting the same or another pattern with the same midi config.

Did you put a Trig on the First Step of each Pattern? And P-locked that Trig with the Program you want for the Pattern.

It’s not a bug; this is well-known and intended behaviour.

If you think so, you should send a feature request to Elektron at feature-request@elektron.se

I just figured out that some external equipment can reset controls if you send again the same identical program change, so it can be considered not a bug but an improvement: an option like “force per-pattern program change send: on/off”, but I understand that this is a minor add.

I’m currently troubleshooting a program change related issue with my gear. I’m trying to change Sessions on my Novation SL MK3 from the Digitone. It works, but not on first startup. I need to turn off and on my SL MK3 after first boot up for it to react to the program changes from the Digitone. I was under the impression that it had something to do with my SL MK3, but after reading this it feels like perhaps the Digitone is the culprit
