Hi, i just bought an octatrack to use with mi DN. Is best to use DN for master or slave? i hear that Mr Dataline uses DN as master because patterns can hold BPM.
Thanks!
yea its a good reason to. I use DN as master with my Rytm for the same reason.
Nice! thanks, i will try it
it wonāt be such a success if youāre reliant on pickup machines - in that case, if you are, you have to set the OT to be master or youāll get familiar with the ādub abortā error message
Hi! So if i want to sample or resample i Will have this āDub errorā? How do you manage bpm changes with OT mĆ”ster? Also i have a keystep to play digitone, i Will need a merger or i can connect it to OT MIDI in? Thanks!
Itās a dilemma really because the OT sequencer is more capable than the DTs.
slaved flex machines donāt seem to attract this reputation, the way pickup machines specifically do - but youād have to do research, never happened to me whereas the pum issue has- itās occasionally not possible to simultaneously manipulate a buffer in some wild ways and write to it at the same time, so there are perhaps some usage cases to be mindful about when overdubbing
turn the dial (not an issue for me)
some folk use the arranger to do this iirc
Yes I was going to say you can slave the DN to the OT and use the arranger for any specific tempo changes. OT arranger is very good. I used the MnM arranger/song mode to play covers of whole songs and the OT is the same if not better.

Never used the arranger, suppose it might be worth a look, one day
The arranger is insanely powerful. You can sequence bank/pattern/part/scene/mute/midi transpose per step if programmed accordingly using ālengthā and āoffsetā. You can combine pieces of the above from any of the OTās patterns and play it like itās one pattern, say 2 steps of A1, 2 steps of C4, 7 steps of G5, etc in what sounds like one 64 step pattern, each with different scenes, mutes, etcā¦
Oh yeah, and it does BPM changesā¦
Folks seem to never want to use it and act like if you have to use the arranger the OT canāt do it. Ohh, you need to use the arranger for that, oh well, I guess Iāll move onā¦
Itās very much a primary feature of the OT which makes it capable of things far beyond what the OT can do without itā¦
-Dont Fear Arranger
Honestly though I donāt use it that much eitherā¦ Haha
I have experimented with the above though and it worked, was pretty insaneā¦
Iām going to start using it more thoughā¦
Tip for OT BPM change outside of arranger: hold function when your turning the tempo(level) knob and the BPM wonāt change until you let go of function. Try to let go on the first step of your pattern you want the new tempo.
At least it is very useful when editing long patterns. When editing, for example, page 4 of 4 you havenāt to listen to the complete pattern, but just repeat the last page.
