Digitone "Control All" on A4?

What a wonderful thing to be wrong about!

I would love it it if Elektron would integrate control all into the bigger machines and at least one performance knob for the smaller ones.

They obviously both serve different purposes aimed at different audiences: Control all fits the more immediate, user friendly and jam oriented nature of the Digi boxes while performance settings are great for the high-end sound design and production pros which the bigger boxes are geared towards.

However, I think combining both features in one box would unlock a lot of hidden potential. Control all is great for creating on the fly variations while jamming. However, there’s also a constant fear of losing your original sound and not being able to gradually revert back to it. Likewise, performance settings are great to make perfectly planned out changes for several tracks, but take too much time to setup in a jamming situation.

Being able to try out variations via control all, see what sticks and then assign these changes to a performance knob with maybe a few tweaks or exlusion of tracks like kick would be the best of both worlds. It would surely improve my songwriting and performance capabilities by a lot. It would honestly be at the top of my wishlist for any elektron device. I get why they don’t implement it, but what do you think?

Yeah, it’s interesting to find features that their “mid tier” boxes have that their “top tier” boxes don’t.

I guess since I have both the DN and the A4, I may be able to find some way to split the difference between control all and performance knobs via midi.

I’ve seen conflicting responses here on the DN having a “control all” function similar to the one found on the DT. but from where I am sitting here in front of my OT MKII/DT/DN setup…. The DN certainly does NOT have this functionality. All that happens when I hold the midi button and twist knobs is they’re reset to their respective default states. :disappointed:

EDIT: note to self…. I am an idiot and should definitely NOT operate my elektron boxes when I’m tired late on a Sunday evening…… I was in fact holding the FUNC key…… :man_facepalming:t5: DN DOES in fact have a working “cntrl all functionality.

I wasn’t away of Digitone haven’t a control all function either :ok_hand:t4:

On the subject of Elektron not including previously included features of other machines, is there no way to record parameter locks on the effects in the Digitone? The other day I was trying to record some changes In the delay and it wouldn’t record then I tried to do it manually but found that the only delay relayed parameter that I could p-lock was the send amount. Is that true or am I missing something? P-locking effects has been an Elektron mainstay since the Monomachine

Unfortunately there is no FX track on the Digitone so no automation I’m afraid.
MIDI loopback or sending CCs from another box is the only way.
After using the A4 it seems like a glaring omission. I love using the FX LFOs to add a bit of parameter wobble to the FX on the A4.

That video Dave Mech released recently using the mod wheel, breath control etc as easily assignable macros really shows the power and usability of that functionality,

Yesterday I was at my friends house and he has got DN and DT and we explored that stuff a bit. Very immediate and fun.

I must say I was blown away by the DN. It sounds so damn good and is so well thought out.

I love it’s potential for dangerous and radioactive sounding, Tarkovsky’s Stalker vibes evoking stuff.

As for the A4 I would say that the macros is where it’s at. Even if assigning just one function per knob it’s nice to have filter cutoffs, res, env depths, lfo speeds and depths simultaneously at your fingertips.
