Digitone Keys Pattern play is not sent to MIDI

Hello,

A super new user of Digitone Keys.

I was wondering if this is just an option or if it actually doesn’t exist.

I’m trying to press play on the Digitone and expected the notes to be sent over midi.

Is this a possibility?

Thanks

Welcome!

Please have a look at the setup example p. 83 - 16.3 on the DK manual.

I hope this will answer your question. If not don’t hesitate to ask here again

Thanks but it didn’t help :frowning:
Only keyboard key triggers are sent and not the pattern.

As instructed from the manual Midi for T1 is set to channel 1 but patterns still do not send any MIDI signals to DAW.

Note: pressing the pattern buttons does send midi but playing a pattern using the play button does not

Is your DAW set to receive midi on channel 1? Sounds to me like the trig keys are sent over the Auto channel (whatever that is by default - don’t have a DN to check it) whereas the tracks will be on a specific midi channel.

Auto is set to 1.
Track is also set to 1.
The DAW receives midi messages over channel one and in MIDI mode from track 1 without any issues.

Pattern however definitely does not send midi messages upon pressing Play on digitone.
if it helps, I have no problem doing the same exact thing with a Keystep Pro sequencer.

On the midi track itself, is it set to channel 1 like this:

You need to push the encoder to get it to accept the selection btw

Ooooooooooooooooooh! The push did it!

Thanks for the tip!

Yey! Yeah it’s a weird quirk on Elektrons! :slightly_smiling_face:

Although, I absolutely don’t understand it. I just changed the channel to 7 (some arbitrary one) and the patter still plays.

Am I hitting that longtime bug where suddenly a pattern has no sound and therefore no midi either?

I just had this issue like 10 times in the last two days and the only way to get rid of it was to load a project again. I’ve read all over internet about it but everyone is convinced it’s a setting somewhere and then everyone responds that the settings seem correct and yet it happens.

I really didn’t expect a hardware synth to have such bugs but I will save my rant for after I am familiar enough with the synth :stuck_out_tongue:

Cheers

Maybe your DAW is receiving midi on any channel? I’ve not heard of this bug to be honest. I’ll let someone else chip in on that one!

Welcome to the forum btw. There are lots of super knowledgeable people on here.

Just to make sure: Did you maybe accidently mute the midi track in this cases?

I had all 4 tracks filled with patterns and I checked to make sure T1…T4 buttons are green and not red.

@craig fyi this is what I was referring to

I’ve never encountered this, are you sure it’s a bug? The Digitone Keys is very complex and it’s always possible that you are simply missing the reason for the behavior.

It could since I’m really new to it. Perhaps after a little practice I no longer have to reload projects. But for now it seems like a very unusual thing.
