I am looking to purchase a Digitone as my first synth. I am a very DAW-heavy producer, namely Ableton Live 10, and although I love plug-ins, I want to be able to create sounds more easily than moving knobs with a pc mouse.
In addition, I would like a device that I can also unplug from my DAW and use a standalone music making machine.
i.e. Big Synth Sounds + Strong Sequencing and Beatmaking Capabilities ALL-IN-ONE.
My main question is. If I plug my midi keyboard (Akai MPK mini) by usb to my PC, then the Digitone output to my audio interface input, would I be able to play the digitone sounds on my midi keyboard? And how many notes would I be able to play at once?
of course, you can play notes that way. digitone has 8 voice polyphony, so you can play up to 8 voice chords… it has 4 tracks, which share the voices, so you could play one note on a track, two notes on another track and have 5 voices left… (simultaneously)
also there is the overbridge plugin, which turns digitone into a „plugin“ in ableton
you can simply connect dt to your computer with a usb cable
i recommend you to check the manual and watch some videos…
i use a4 and rytm with daw, as i dont have dn anymore, but the workflow is similar and very convenient. there is audio streaming and the devices are in sync with computer, which means if you turn a knob on the device it changes on the plugin in realtime and vice versa… also you can send automation and the tempo and clock are in sync. (keep in mind, ob is not stable for all users, but for me it works good on win10 and ableton 10…)
check the overbridge 2.0 manual, there is a setup example with ableton live, you will get a good overview this way…
