I read elektronauts fairly regularly but haven’t posted yet… but here it goes.
I’m pretty sure I just lost months of work on my Digitone and I have no idea how or why. The project I’ve been working in, which I’ve saved (FUNC + Save Project, YES) probably hundreds of times, was getting full. I saved the project and initialized a new one in the next slot. Returning to my previous project… all of my patterns have been replaced with the preset patterns, its like the whole project is just a copy of the presets project.
Apart from the feelings of grief and anger I’m feeling presently, I’m mostly wondering what gives?! I don’t know what I could have done differently… also I’ve successfully saved and initialized new projects on my digitakt without any issue whatsoever many times over. I’m totally baffled.
(Note: ONE pattern… BANK1 PTN1… the first attempt I ever made at making anything after getting the DN appears to have saved in that project… but only partially. Even more baffling that SOMETHING saved but from so long ago??).
Don’t have a DN but on AR for example the preset project is write protected by default, there is a toggle for it in the project menu… It’s important to either use a different project slot or untoggle the write protect if you don’t care to keep the presets project intact and want to save over it.
Totally, I do wonder if that is what happened although I’m almost entirely certain I was working in a new, non-write protected project (although it might have started as a copy of the presets project originally, I quite don’t remember).
Question: Would I get an error trying to “save project” (FUNC + SaveProject, YES) in a write protected project?
Yes there will be an error but you can use Func + Yes to safe temporarily and then untoogle and save once in a while. Its really quick when you have done it a few times.
Also maybe a backup via sysex dump will keep your projects more save.
