I am currently using and A4 and rytm with Overbridge connected to my iMac [fairly new model from 2014 - high spec]
I am not able to turn on the main L&R input on the rytm before the bandwidth runs out. Give my iMac is pretty high spec and I am running them on 16 bit via Overbridge is this seems strange - both USB cable are connected directly to my iMac.
Is anyone else finding the same limitation?
Has anyone Tried Overhub? Would this even make a difference?
Overhub will not give you a 9th and 10th audio stream from your Rytm.
It doesn’t matter if you have a dual core mac mini or a 6 core monster Mac Pro.
It is a limitation of USB 1.1 bandwidth which was required over USB 2.0 to prevent crosstalk, IIRC. You get 8 channels per device at 16 bit, no more.
You’ll need to use either an additional but separate audio interface to record your Rytm’s L+R, or, if you have an A4, you can use A4’s external audio input.
ok cool. thanks for confirming AdamJay - to be honest this is a good solution now I understand USB limitation. I currently use the A4 inputs for other modulars and interesting machines but totally see your point as a massively viable one to use and an alternative set up.
Really what I am trying to get from those rytm inputs as you probably guessed is the rytm FX sends for processing separately and monitoring for the jam. I guess it’s best to mute some a4 channels and try increasing the rytms!!! if not then reducing the rytms inputs… I guess some trial and error is required.
nope
8 channels in each 16b
it will work just as well if you decide to run 2 in each or 8 in each
they are entirely separate USB streams, no trading off !
an MTT hub only helps keep things tidy for the bus as a whole
the £6 one I sourced with same chip as Elektron one works perfectly
Gotcha. Makes perfect sense. Thanks for clearing that up! Will try recording and monitoring the main rytm inputs through another audio interface to get the wet fx
