Does look nice, fairly simple but I guess it depends on how much of that modulation you can use at one time, fx do sound very nice too. Probably would have got one by now if any where in stock.
Oh man, you could literally be the first person to serenade a cactus (or other petit house plant species) with it on youtube.
Thanks for reporting in on the build quality. I feel like Dreadbox have eclipsed even Behringer on how much you get for the price. How are finding the menu system?
(Only thing I wish it had is a high pass filter mode.)
Iāll see what can be doneā¦
The menus are fine - the screen is about the same size as found on several Eurorack modules, so quite small but crystal clear, and the rotary click encoder is very precise and still quite stiff, so feels solid too. Itās possible to use the Back button to turn off the sequencer as itās also the start/stop control for that, so itās a good idea to pay attention.
My only complaint so far is that thereās no power switch.
The filter is lovely, though other modes would have been nice too.
Iāve got a few more details I was able to gather;
I asked about the existence of MIDI Program Change, MIDI Clock/Transport, possibility of OSC Sync, and LFO & Delay Clock Sync.
Response:
āAll the things you describe are not yet implemented.
We will do most of them though, until October + some extraās.
A major update is planned for then, with more effects, new modulator mode and other.
Still oscillator sync and delay BPM sync is not in the plans for October.ā
Hopefully us OT/DT users will get MIDI PC soon enough. Iām also interested in seeing a digital HPF possible on FX slot 1/2.
Shame about BPM sync not coming soon, but digital filters could be good to have.
The menu system reminds me a lot of the Temps Utile module.
I had a fellow 'naut PM me on Tuesday and PMād him back.
Iām sure it"s cool to share my answerā¦
We have no secretsā¦
āIāve only had a limited amount of time with it but I really like it so far.
Feels really well put together. Lovely feeling pots and sliders. The encoder has a very certain clicky action that, although unusually ādefinedā feels super-solid.
It can get you into all manner of territories really quickly. It does beautiful lush Moogy type pads really well. I even thought Iād drifted into Vangelis on his CS-80 (albeit monophonic)
It does harsh/aggressive just as comfortably. Had a relatively decent stab at some 303y acid.
The effects sound beautiful and even though there are only 12 of them or whatnot, they can really take it to the next level. Ran my OP-1 through it really quickly yesterday which sounded lush, although the input level sounded a bit low. I didnāt have time to investigate further. Iām sure theyāll be an input level that I stupidly missed.
On the whole, itās a big āthumbs upā
Lovely sounding, very immediate but made to sculpt. Can sound utterly enormous as well as beautifully subtle.
Wicked effects.
A really versatile, premium sounding synth in a tiny little box.
I hope yourās hurries it way to you.ā
Iāve been running a Volca Modular through the external input and it gets really far out with three modulators effecting up to four FX destinations and the VCA simultaneously, and thatās without the synth doing anything.
Alright, where are all the people in the States getting theirās from?
I was thinking about getting the Erebus but now Iām wondering if I should get this instead.
Nick was raving about it on his weekly Sonic Talk show. Says it sounds really huge, and heās a big fan of the Erebus.
I have the Erebus mk2 and a lilāErebus, both of which sound fantastic, but would say that the Typhon is possibly a better choice, unless you want cv control rather than midi cc. That and the 12 current effects on the Typhon and the two varieties of sequencer too, for notes as well as up to three which can control multiple modulation destinations with or without probability. Itās quite amazing.
I LOVE Dreadbox as a company. Yiannis and his team make amazing sounding synths at great price points and their customer service is INCREDIBLE - and so human.
I think I will get a Typhon just to support these guys in what they do, lol.
some shops in Europe saying itāll be in stock on the 15th July while thomann are saying 4 - 6 weeks.
I get the feeling thomann is more accurate in this instance. would I be right u fink?
I think the first batch is coming in to Thomann on the 17th. 5 to 6 weeks for the second lot.
boom, ordered from andertons. taking a punt that I get in on their first shipment
Fingers crossed
(I used to work there 12 or so years ago!)
Hard to believe this little monster is monophonic, isnāt it?
Itās a wee bit like the Evolver in that respect.
