Talk about hands-on…
Yeah this thing is so sick. Only piece of expensive gear I have really wanted in a long time.
Would you care to compare it with other pieces of expensive gear? For example a rytm?
The perkons has 1/3 of its voices, no samples, but has comp and distrtion as master fx, no reverb, no delay. They both have sequencers too. And still its even more expensive than a rytm, even without any analog voices.
it’s got delay. they’re just changing the delay type from a BBD chip to a digital emulation of one.
believe it or not, most of the cost of hardware is the actual physical parts you touch. the op amps, resistors, (and once upon a time, microcontrollers) all that stuff costs pennies. retail, those switches with the LEDs cost up to $4.
it’s clearly very boutiquey but it’s more expensive for more reasons than just that.
Awesome little jam. Looks like you’re on fast forward dude. What the hell superspeed
Compared to Rytm, each do things differently and better.
-No samples on the Perkons, Rytm has.
-Perkons has much better sequencer options such as random playback and very direct controls for these settings. Rytm doesn’t have that.
-Rytm has lot of synth engines over 12 tracks. Perkons has synth engines too but over 4 tracks. And Rytm has more processing options such as more parameters, ENVs, LFO etc.
-Perkons is so great with its direct controls, to be able to manipulate sequencer details and Reset without losing time is extremely significant too. Rytm falls quite flat in this comparison.
-Also Perkons can switch between KITS on the fly where Rytm can not. It’s a shame cause Rytm should be able to do that, it’s just not developed that way. (You will have to enter and exit the Kit loading screen like a maniac)
-Perkons and Rytm has trig conditions. On the Rytm, you program it with a knob, which is ok! But Perkons takes it another level by tapping 2 buttons to assign different trig conditions to steps. This is very cool on the Perkons.
Sound wise, this is a matter of taste. For me, Perkons sounds very cool and dirty. Rytm has defined character and punch. Overall, Perkons is very wild. It brings playability into a complex machine. I always look at these machines in a way that ‘it should do something that I can not on other gear’ - this is exactly what Perkons does.
“Hello Cenk, it is Erica here, we’d like you to be our official demo guy”
Great jam, as per usual
I hope they might consider doing the sequencer standalone or even better with 4 sample channels, I like everything about it except the sounds. I feel same about Pulsar, just not my thing soundwise.
I wonder what is meant with reset without losing time. Don‘t have rytm but i feel its a very strong point of a4 mk1 the track, pattern etc and also the various live rec with no, trig with push… reload things. Does it mean more precise reload timing in a large setup? A strong point imo of course besides quick fun, no screen etc would be for me if perkons hasn‘t got ptn autosave or has write protect…
God dammit, I didn’t need a drum machine, but now I want a Perkons. That sequencer… And all the overdrive, and the FX sends/returns. This is right up my alley.
Fuck it, I’m getting one.
RIP, your Heat.
Nah, I have other things to sell first.
Like kidneys.
Looks interesting but personally I would rather get a new Rytm MK2 or save for the Erica Synths fully modular techno system and call it a day.
What’s the main draw of Perkons for you? The dirtiness of the sound and the hands-on UI? If compared to something like the Syntakt which you seem to enjoy or the Rytm which you didn’t gel with IIRC.
Just curious as you seemed dead set on focusing on the ST.
Yes
I’m curious, which video or audio above let you say this?
Also, your avatar keeps reminding me of Thunderdome II and III, which were the best Thunderdome CDs.
Will you get that Light Pedal too?
I think a Pulsar would suit you more.
