Erica Synths PĒRKONS HD-01

The manual suggests you can assign it to all destinations on all voices at once, with individual depth control for each assignment.

Crikey I’ve even read the manual! :joy:
Cheers

Well the manual is still a bit vague, I had to read the modulation section a few times before it was clear to me.

Ok, so I ended pre-ordering it. October can’t come soon enough

Full manual now up on the website.

Might have mine within a month…

Anyone know how the routing works on this thing? Can I take individual outs for voices 2-4 and only route voice 1 to the compressor? e.g. by having FX send for voices 2-4 fully open, level for voices 2-4 fully closed, FX send for voice 1 fully closed, Level for voice 1 fully open, inserts for voices 2-4 connected for individual outs and main output for voice 1 connected for compressed sound…?

Now peeps who pre-ordered can relax knowing they can reset the box if they have to return it :joy:
Highly unlikely but still…

Manual is up now. I’d dive into that because we are all guessing at this point without it.

From what I can tell, the per voice send/return bypasses the BBD and the per voice output is the raw voice before either the BBD or master compressor.

So yeah, if you only want the compressor to affect voice 1, you’ll have to output the other 3 voices individually into a mixer or something.

There’s no circuit diagram in the manual though, so it’s difficult to know for sure.

If that is the case I’d use pedals on the indi tracks and record out of the master.

But really some tracks can probably just stay dry and go out through their indi so it could end up being like 1-2 takes total. That delay on the hats or snares would be a must though for me. If I get them balanced right it could easily be a 1 take performance with a couple Indi tracks and the rest out of the master.

IIRC the temp manual mentioned FM as an algo, now it says Slap and Karplus, between others. Amazing

It looks cool and I like the hands on controls, but it seems very expensive for a 4 voice digital synth (with analogue filters), it’s more than I paid for my Novation Summit for example.

The pricing is definitely interesting - especially for Erica Synths who are normally quite affordable. I suspect there must be some justification/rationale behind it, unless the only competition they see is the Pulsar-23 and they thought ‘fuck it’.

Man, Pulsar really burned me out on the 4 voice esoteric drum machine thing…

It’s gonna be interesting seeing what you nauts do with this thing though

The pulsar modules with the perkons sequencer would be something

Every time I come to this thread I want to preorder a Perkons it’s such a cool machine.

I do worry that I’d do it a disservice by not pronouncing it properly though.

Yeah thats my main issue with it. It looks so well built but it’s pretty limited compared to something like a Rytm which costs less.

I love drum machines and this one sounds great, so its still on my radar for buying one day. I know I could do a lot with it and really enjoy it, but its a lot of money for a piece of gear that I don’t think I would use on all my tracks like I do with the Rytm.

I do worry that I’d do it a disservice by not pronouncing it properly though.

Call me weird (or maybe cancel me as gross cultural imperialist) but I find it fun trying to define the pronunciation of non-English words using English words.

Of course, it strongly depends on your accent but for southern England “Par-corns” feels about right to me (said quickly, rolling the first ‘r’ a little and swallowing the second) while I reckon the Scots could use “Power-cones”. Stateside, the closest I could get to something generic was “Pyre-cons” but, again, regional accents mean YMMV.

However, I’d say the mere fact that you’ve thought about the pronunciation (even in jest) would clearly justify your pre-order. You’ve earned it!

I just read through the manual. In terms of playability, this thing has the best UI I’ve seen on a drum machine so far. I’m not fully convinced on the sound yet but I’ve asked my local shop to save me one when they arrive.

Edit: 1 thing I don’t see how to do is edit velocity per step.
