Haha  subconsciously perhaps :man_shrugging:t3:

Or just forgetting to move it off screen and lately giving less about having things look perfect on screen. Too much of that on yt currently

Anybody else received theirs yet?

I’m hopeful I’ll be getting mine before the end of next week, but no shipping confirmation yet, just an email from the retailer last week saying they should have batch 1 in by the end of the month.

I think I have to correct myself. Testing oerkons with octatrack now and when using a direct out it gets disconnected from going to the main out.

Could’ve sworn that didn’t happen before when testing it on the xone 96

Very weird but probably just made a mistake before

I had a feeling it was a bit too good to be true.

Nevermind though, less options for me to confuse myself with.

Wait actually.
Hah.
What the.

So I know from info from Erica that the direct outs are unbalanced. But when you plug in a balanced cable it does work as discribed before. Another weird thing when doing this is that the direct output sounds way brighter than the main out version.

So using a balanced cable it does not disconnect the voice from going to the main out and it provides a brighter version of the voice.

That last bit I actually send to support last week because I’ve never encountered such behavior when connecting a balanced cable to an unbalanced out.

That’s fucking weird.

Yes. Very! If someone with more technical knowledge could shed a light on this behavior I’d love to hear it. Also looking forward to Erica’s answer.

Edit: also, there is quite a bit of volume loss on the main out version that way so it seems. But if you click the plug out of the socket as you can do with most jack in/outs this is solved and you still het both outs. This is probably because it’s not using the tip I think.

In any case, that makes the split possible, which is great

mine should be here Tuesday

I’m curious, what exactly is going on with the sends and the direct outputs? I scrolled up, but it’s still a bit confusing.

Do you use normal insert cables for the sends, like on a mixer? Usually with mixers the inserts are TRS (tip ring sleeve) cables and the tip is the send and the ring is the return. Is that the same system here? If so, I could see why balanced vs unbalanced would make a difference – balanced are also TRS cables and connecting a TS cable to a mixer insert might not work at all.

In general, connecting a balanced cable to an unbalanced output shouldn’t make the sound better or brighter. Balanced circuits duplicate the original signal and invert the phase of the copy, resulting in noise cancellation. If there’s no circuitry to do this, the cable can’t do it for us.

Probably has to do with how the circuit gets completed with a regular mono jack fully plugged in, sounds like the balanced jack partially completes it and when you only have it partially plugged in you are getting the sound and none of the circuit being completed.

Oh cool you were sending all 4 indi outs to the OT? What was the workflow like there? Thats a pretty killer combo.

Got mine last week! I recommend giving the manual a good read because there’s a couple of hidden key combos that are very handy!

Really enjoyed @DaveMech videos. They give a nice feel for how the machine operates. Those 4 lanes of visible programming are exactly what I need.
