So does Erica win the prize for most expensive groove boxes?

Some good sounds being posted here. I like.

Some Gotharman devices are around the same sort of price or a tad more.

guys, so what a fćk am I supposed to do?) saved baks for alpha base, but maybe to buy perkons? very difficult choice)

Depends what you want.

If you’re happy with just a few tracks and some more modern sounding algorithms and want to do a lot of live/improvised performances, you’ll probably love the Perkons.

If you’re after slightly more “classic” high quality sounds with a bit more flexibility and slightly deeper sound design options, probably go with the Alpha Base.

Think about what you want to do and but the thing that does it best. Beware the shiny new thing.

Or get a Digitone

I’m going to see my therapist and find the answer)

Yeah I think jomox is probably more complete as a stand alone groovebox, but perkons has enough for some genres. I sort of think perkons design wants you to be doing atleast some programming of the sequencer live, why else would you need all 4 sequences exposed at all times. I feel like if you aren’t into live programming then perkons doesn’t make as much sense anymore. Add a few things along side a perkons and you have a nice setup and while jomox might not need anything extra, in all likelihood you will want to add atleast something else to it.

I watched some x-base videos today and it sounds glorious but I think the perkons’ attraction is besides the sound it’s unparalleled immediacy.

It’s easy to see how things can escalate from simplicity to complex while designing these machines and Erica Synths kept their focus (instead of losing it) with this one and there is obviously lots of demand for something like that.

I’ve made several modular drum machines and they all failed bcs of greed and lack of vision.

Nice and flubbery kick, very enjoyable.

Probably my fave so far, this kind of polymetric slower tempo stuff is groovy as copulate.

I had the AB for a bit. I miss its sounds and especially the kick. I do not miss the complexity or the midi-greediness (you need a midi filter). I got a DRM1 which is nice but inferior in terms of sounds (clap is awful).

I have ordered a Perkons. I anticipate it will have a narrow window of application, but my experience with Erica’s bassline and delay lead me to believe that this will be an immediate and playable instrument. In my case, I’m hopeful that the DRM1 mates well with it (with DRM1 as sound expander), and I get the benefits of a great sequencer, the breadth of tones the two machines offer, and a setup that is generally knob-per-function with no menus.

In the sequencer there is no tonality in it, only rhytm?

I believe you can lock or record automation on the pitch for tonal sequences but I don’t think there is any actual chromatic input if that is what you are wondering.

Just you, and a bit of GAS.

Syntakt is good time. Plus, if it sounded great to you yesterday, nothing is really making it sound horrible today. Different maybe, but subjectively absolutely horrible? Highly doubt it.
