Yea I was just having a little fun
I don’t have a Pulsar but I can agree the Hainbach demo wasn’t very interesting. Like @Geneoart said, however, trade show demos are often like that. Five minutes of playing, probably not a whole lot more before that to get to know the instrument.
I’ll say this though: most of the Pulsar demos/videos I’ve seen on Youtube haven’t blown me away either. It’s people on this forum that have got me excited about the P23. (Still haven’t caved but it’s been close.)
I think we all need to wait and see what Kodek does with it before judgement can be made.
maybe erica synths should get the lxr-02 right before grapping our attention with an announcement for another drum machine. is the synth business really about stealing eyeballs and the money you can make out of people who dream of making music?
sorry if this post has a negative vibe, and it definitely should be no offence against people who just love to play.
you get my attention with the announcement of a new drummachine, I just bought one delivered with firmware more or less in beta. there is an ridiculous oversaturation in this market.
I think we should take the machines we have and play and play and play and stop following the hype…
Very much agree.
However, there are cases where a new instrument is very exciting. The Buchla/Tip Top 200 currently has me excited.
This Perkinsons thing, not so much. Each to their own eh?
new instruments are definitely exciting.
my rant could be summarised as quality vs quantity. and on a personal level I hope my interest in music is stronger than my excitement for new toys.
As much as I agree that the LXR02 has been a bit underwhelming so far (mostly due to the firmware), this is entirely within expectations of what Erica Synths are about. For years they’ve been putting out gear at a savage pace, both Eurorack and desktop gear. I don’t think it’s hype, I just think it’s the pace they work at. No-one was complaining about this pace before the LXR dropped, and I think using the LXR as an example of this pace being a problem doesn’t quite work. I think the LXR’s problems might be more to do with the collaborative nature of the product than the pace of Erica’s innovation. I think they probably did put the LXR out a bit too soon, hopefully they’ve learned a lesson from it, but if you look at the last couple of years of Erica’s output (zen delay, DB01, Fusion System, Syntrix, to name just a few) there’s barely a dud among them and a lot of pretty serious innovation going on.
I’m hearing that there’s a new firmware about to drop for the LXR that hopefully fixes a lot of the issues people are having (issues that put me off buying one).
Kinda sad when a lousy jam like this is the first demo of your highly anticipated device coming out…
agree what you say about erica synths, I just feel a little bit fed up with synth news, maybe I should plant a tree for every new piece of gear I buy
That’s a bit more like it. Probably just the guy playing it, but that definitely had more than a whiff of DFAM about it, sound wise.
for sure. I’d love to see if it is capable of sounding softer too, dialing back on the drive.
Otherwise, the form factor is an instant buy for me.
Cool. Gritty, definitely not modern hifi, character. Knob-per-function format. Blawan will be happy.
Not enough to make me trade in my AR but certainly wouldn’t refuse it if it was given to me
Not much info about the 3 sound engine modes yet.
With that latest video it looks like one would be kick/bass wave engine and another noise based.
So only 16 steps sequencer?
5 steps is plenty.
I can see Odds and Prob options on the bottom right, together with p-lock that should bring a lot of variety to each pattern.
You can only hope that you will be able to chain patterns.
Seems there’s a firmware update in the pipeline.
At least that’s how I interpreted what Peter Kirn wrote in his CDM article about the Perkons and in the comment section.
this looks bandy as owt, an’ we’ll ave non athat talk t’round ere, Larkin’ wit regional accents, now you, drum machine, sling ya bluudy ‘ook, go on, get teh buggery av got no money for the likes of you
Ahem…I am finding this thing quiet fetching, but I’m gassing for basically everything at superbooth, again the price is a little high but it has some insane features. Loving the look of it
The 4 lowest rh buttons suggests 64 steps.
