Unfortunately… I need 3x as a minimum
Ah interesting. Seems there is a revival of the classic altern 8 / trance-rave outfit. I noticed it on the streets also.
But its not complete without gloves and dust-suit.
Great about this thing: no screen, big clicky buttons (seq buttons should also be like on the techno system tough, more clicking) There could be a market for hobby rooms in retirement homes. Ideal if they then could invite me for afternoon tea, as i will not be able to afford living in a retirement home.
I’m no longer not not interested.
It seems quite rigid with the step sequencer (can the lengths be changed from 16 and be used polymetrically?) and the quantised live recorded parameter locks thingy. Compared to Pulsar, this seems more locked to the grid, whereas Pulsar sequencing and patching is pure nuts if you want it to be, from what I can tell. It has a more usable snare than Pulsar tho, if you like snares. One thing that did stand out for me is the forward, random, pingpong, and backwards sequencer options.
Yea definitely waiting for a proper demo. It’s sad Erica didn’t prepare one so that the first impression of their product isn’t meh so far.
The DFAM comes to life with delay/distortion. These send/return channels per machine are going to be bonkers if you have some guitar pedals laying around unused.
Can we for sure use whatever machine we want or is it fixed?
Come on Erica Synths, you gonna let all these trade show wankers fill up YouTube with half arsed “first play” demos or are you gonna show us what Kodek can do with it?
It looks like there are per track multipliers and dividers. If so, it seems like you could get some interesting rhythms. If not? 16 steps does seem a little rigid.
I was positively surprised of the pulsar snare/clap after also not liking it from videos
(anthony rothers snare for example…).
Well I can only say from presonus headphones unfortunately. I‘ m also positive surprised its even possible to listen with headphones for me. tanzbär and tr8 hurt me too much.
Negative surprised i‘m from the drive on the kick. (Global drive is nice). quatisation command doesn‘t really work for me. But I get some unquantized groovy electro after like 8 attempts. Didn‘t explore much yet but don‘t think the patching is that unlimited nuts and huge sonicwise.
Btw It’s already listed on Music Store’s website, the foreseeable date is 16.11.2021
The four individual voices are really calling for an Octatrack jam…
yeah it’s sounding pretty damn good there. not blown away yet, but… I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating crackers.
and details yet on the max sequence length? it seemed in there that some of the sounds were sequenced with 64 steps. but I haven’t seen a big enough panel shot to see a page button (or similar).
also in this video and the others I’ve seen so far, you can see them record a knob movement but it doesn’t then play back exactly as they’ve performed it. like they’ll do a filter sweep and it’ll just play a couple values of that on a couple steps. maybe it’s a BPM thing, or maybe it’s not scanning the knobs at a high enough resolution, or sliding between those stored values accurately. or maybe it’s just an early firmware…
Sounds super lofi, not a bad thing but $$$$ for a lofi drum machine? Idk I totally love the I/O and sequencer. I just need to hear it some more before I’m truly convinced. Looks amazing btw. If I had a choice between this and an AR I’ll still go AR and save a couple of dollars.
Maybe other users can pull some less brutal sound out of it, let’s see.
He mentions midi out from every knob, I assume this is true for the sequencers too.
Regarding pattern length … I think it does time divide/multiply per track.
I was hoping for more brutal, but different strokes and all that…
Aha I think I’ve heard and enjoyed your tracks on the DFAM thread so I understand .
And yet, seeing this magnificent quadruple sequencer all I want to do is use it on my nord drum module
While the AR makes a lot of sense like @Geneoart said, I think the value here is the knobs per track/machine being right there. It’s more of an instrument than it is a machine. A4 is a very capable drum machine as well. I just like this machine. I want the better demos to prove me wrong. Perfect Circuit will probably make it sound like impeding doom.
One thing I can’t seem to figure out is if the machines are fixed. I would love 4 kicks for a song instead of being forced to use the other machines I often don’t use. With the on-board compressor/delay/drive I am sure 4 kicks would sound great just ducking in and out of existence. With the sound sources being digital I would really hope that is the case.
I like it.
It seems that it’s really fun to use it and I think it has a lot of potential, as it’s digital as well and every parameter can be a controlled via midi CC, which makes it perfect companion to my OT.
Pulsar is a modular synth, but this is a serious drum machine. It’s unfair to compare it to the Pulsar.
There’s a 3 position mode switch on every track to select the sound engine.
