Oh crap now the interest continues… haha
I feel like they need to lock surgeon in a room with this and a syntrx and see what new raw trax EP falls out the other side.
The main draw to this is definitely the interface and filters. 3 voice types with 4 digital params total (tune/decay/param1/param2) seems like it could get somewhat limiting after a while (edit: maybe decay is analog after filters?). It’s not much less than most analog drum machines though. In terms of flexibility and power I feel like this has nothing on the spazedrum (or the upcoming Urano).
I wonder down the line if you’ll be able to load different sets of digital voices per patch.
Looks like there is different length per track in that latest video… seems like a really cool performance machine. I wonder what midi it will send with the pitch parameter… would be kind of cool if it sends pitch bend as then you could maybe layer in a mono synth you sequence on a same track that way.
This does look really fun… usually I just think “why not just use the Digitakt, I can get identical results” but with this… it just looks super fun to use and mess with while I play a few synths!! Price is def not cheap. It does look like they’ve packed a lot in though.
It’s the same with the Elektron devices. They only record the value per step. And i would love to change that. It sounds so dope when i tweak around with my Digitakt but when i record the knob movement it sounds lame in comparison.
this definitely seems worse at that task though.
This is exactly what I think when I see a new drum machine is coming out too. And it’s why I’ve wanted a Pulsar 23 for a while, because I know the DT can’t provide that ‘organismic’ sound. The Perkons (forever going to be autocorrected to Perkins) looks beautiful and it sounds really good to my ears. The cost is going to be due to the extensive I/O, the circuitry and the R&D, which I accept. Will I get one? Probably.
Yeah i agree, in this video it sounds like it could be worse.
I love the sound of this machine, but it’s real expensive for not being a go to drum machine for me.
Also a bummer they didn’t include CV gate for sync. I feel like a modular company should just know to do this.
I think it’s got clock in and out and the trigger ins obviously.
I think maybe they thought there was already enough I/O all over the back of it without adding CV/gate as well.
It does? I didn’t see that. Unless you are talking about the MIDI DIN.
So after listening to the Kodek demo I’m not blown away by the sound. The interface and design looks fantastic, but the sound doesn’t strike me as being something I need given that I’m just getting my head around the lxr-02. I wanted it to be nastier and heavier. I’ll probably end up getting one.
Oh awesome - that’s huge then. I don’t know how I missed that. I guess since they appear to be 1/4 in and I was looking for 1/8 inch.
I’m not convinced by the sound at the moment either. I was surprised by the digital voicing not that it means anything bad, more that I was expecting something crazier if they went that route, but maybe that means they can add new sounds or adjust the sounds themselves.
At the minute it sounds like the kind of basic percussive analog sounds you can get from nearly any synth with fast enough envelopes.
The interface though… one of the nicest looking drum machines I’ve ever seen.
Indeed. An MD ran through a good distortion gives you much similar sounds, and much more. But that interface is something else… (at the expense of portability!)
I just realized if you slap a limited synth engine on each track with a snappy envelope and sequencer you can call it a drum machine. Let profits roll in!!!
This drum machine will have a hard time knocking the Pulsar off it’s perch. Perkons sequencer is really nice but the Pulsar gives you way more options with the connectivity. I have my OT for sequencing anyway.
The reason I’m excited about this is because I don’t really like open ended, super versatile and complex sound engines. I want a four to six voice drum machine with simple yet powerful voices, a filter and overdrive per voice and a UI that allows me complete control over parameters and sequencing without having to look at menus.
If it sounds right (and by right, I mean fucking disgusting) then this might be my perfect drum synth.
I do accept that my needs and desires are probably pretty niche, but it’s a niche that Erica Synths have been providing for pretty fucking beautifully for the last few years. I’d be pretty upset if they started making nice instruments for friendly people all of a sudden.
